Can any one help I live in the South West - willing to travel

The malshi is not a recognised breed so there is no breed club to find a recognised well respected breeder

Therefore you are looking to find a backyard breeder, try your local newspaper

Remember that as it cannot be registered, it's a cross breed and shouldn't be costing an arm and leg

There are some being advertised in the Westerm Morning News at the weekend!! Had never heard of the breed so had to read the ad carefully, but definitely them.

Because, as Suki says, they're not a breed. They're a cross between two existing breeds, given a funny name because it seems to add ££s to the puppies' sale price.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/findingbreeder.htm (US based but still very applicable)

All the above applies to breeders of any dogs, but take further care with "designer crossbreeds". From my experience, the majority of breeders of this kind of dog are cashing in on the fad, and do not do the appropriate health tests, research or even socialisation of their puppies.
I can see the benefit of some crosses - for example, the Labradoodle originated from someone trying to create a non-shedding/low-allergen guide dog, with the best from the Poodle and the Lab. But what benefit does a "Malshi" have over a Maltese or a Shih Tzu? They're of a similar height, with similar coats. What draws you to a "Malshi" over a purebred of either breed? Genuine question, I am interested to know.

Given your other thread and your recent issues with your Dachshund, I would really be careful how you proceed. Morals aside on that subject, but you have seen how a health condition can potentially cause a lot of expense as well as a lot of heartbreak. I hope for your sake that everything works out with your Dachshund...but really bear in mind those kind of issues when choosing a breeder. Do you want to go out and not just buy a dog that's more likely to develop a longterm/serious health condition due to a lack of health testing, but to also fund that breeder's practice so that other people go on to face the same problems?

I know all these designer crossbreeds are not recognised as such at the moment, But where did all the dog breeds that we know now come from?
Dogs didn't originally come to this earth as Poodles, Labs, Collies etc, so it must have been through different types of dogs getting together for/ how whatever reason. It was probally because of people wanting different/better dogs that was around naturally.:)
A breed has to start somewhere
Treat other's how you like to be treated.

    Harry born 23/09/2008
New baby grandson, Louie born 28/06/2012,
Proud nanny to two beautiful boys :j
And now I have the joy of having my foster granddaughter becoming my real granddaughter. Can't ask for anything better

    UPDATE,
As of today 180919. my granddaughter is now my official granddaughter, adoption finally granted

That is true. However the old breeds tend to have been bred for a purpose such as hunting, herding, retrieving, whereas these so called designer dogs appear to be bred for nothing more than to make money! Additionally, most of them are bred by people who don't have a clue as regards testing for health issues or breeding to avoid such health issues. That is the main problem with them - not least of all the price tag! Purebred dogs have a high pricetag not because the breeder has thought of a number, but because they have factored in costs such as health checks, stud fees to a good dog, vet costs. Back street breeders for the most part don't bother, so just pick a number they like!
  • OP, have you thought about mixed breed rescue dogs? Dogsblog is a great place to look, in addition to Dogs Trust, etc. Admittedly, none are the perfect mix you wanted, but you'd be both giving a dog a much-needed home and not giving any extra incentive to unscrupulous backyard breeders to persist with unchecked breed mixing just to make a few quid.

Here are a couple of options:
    http://www.dogsblog.com/category/maltese-cross/ (There's currently 1 listed - a lovely looking 1 year old male Maltese-Jack Russell cross)
http://www.dogsblog.com/category/shih-tzu-cross/ (There are a few Shih Tzu crosses)

As others have said - there is no such "breed" as a Malshi - it is a crossbreed with a stupid name, designed to draw in the feeble-minded and get them to part with loads of money.

You would be better to go to your local rescue, get a mutt and then design your own idiotic, chav name for it. Far cheaper, fun for all the family, and with the added bonus that you give a home to a deserving animal.

You still end up with a crossbreed. You could still end up with a ridiculous name (limited only by your imagination). Instead of giving loads of money to some backyard shyster with pound signs in his eyes, you can give it to a shelter to help save other animals. Win! Win!

So you have money to buy an expensive mongrel but do not have money to pay for health care of your current dog that is unwell? And trying to find a way to fiddle with the insurance?

    Oh dear...

I'm the proud owner of two cross-breeds (better known as mongrels) :)

A labrador x chihuahua (yes really!) and a whippet cross. Both are lovely dogs but the result of accidental litters. It makes me laugh in amazement that some cross-breed pups demand the same prices as pure pedigrees.

Incidentally I didnt pay a penny for either of them, but rehomed then at 12 months and 9 months old. As mongrels their insurance is slightly cheaper too
