    FTSE is international !! :rotfl:

Actually what you should have said is that you expected the FTSE to go up because as the £ falls against other currencies it makes UK listed stocks cheaper for foreign investors so more money comes in pushing prices upwards. But because you haven't got a clue about any of this you have responded with some nonsensical gibberish instead. Bravo!

PS any views on the value of the £ under the last government, any at all?

It is pointless to try and discuss anything with these people.

They are easily manipulated by the media, and those who have an agenda and feed the media with easily digestible mush.

Large Oil company want to hide your profiteering?

Feed a few story's blaming the value of GBP for the rising price of petrol. The stupid media run with it, and the GULLIBLE fall for it
    ..easy.

The FACT that GBP/USD was 1.35 as recently as 2002 and nobody had to stop using their car, nobody stopped going on holiday and the UK economy didn't collapse overnight is easily forgotten.

The internet age was meant to set us free, but in fact it has just made it easier to enslave the feeble minded who will believe everything they are told.

You are right fuel was a lot cheaper then.~$35 per barrel as opposed to ~$115 of late. (~£26/£75 ) (+188%). Median pay 2003/2010 ~£20k/£26k(+30%).

  • Is it a right for Cameron to have lush holidays then, or Clegg, or any politician - I thought we were All In This Together? Oh wait...

'Sterling dropped to a two-and-a-half-year low against the dollar this week – meaning you will get $50 less when exchanging £500 than you would have over Christmas.' (Telegraph) plus ... I suppose we should add in the cost of coffees, drinks, excursions, meals once we get there... omg, that's going to be LOADS!

You really are quite thick DLW. You want to come over here (Portugal) and see what it's like to live with a currency your stuck with i.e. the Euro.I posted a month ago about the hardships many are having to endure here. All our Taxes went up at the begining of the year, also Social security costs,so no bugg@rs being employed. Our electricity bills are going up every three months for the next three years, and shops, bars and retailers are shutting left right centre!

Still, a fair amounts of Brits will continue to come over during the summers months. Stock up with cheap booze in the Supermarket, get bladdered in their Apartments and roll into Town for a top up. I'm sure you'll be amongst them.

2.5 year low means that it was lower just 2.6 years ago... Are you going to comment on the state of the exchange rate under the previous government or just keep ignoring that whilst hoping your silly posts will have some kind of impact on...well I'm not sure what you are hoping to influence. Maybe you could explain that as well whilst discussing the collapse of the value of the pound 2008-May 2010.

You should realize that both sets of facts are true:

The pound hasn't fallen by very much and is higher than at some points under Labour

The pound is at multi-month lows
    .

It is also up around 44% on the level of 28 years ago (tomorrow, 1.05) under Thatcher, statistics eh?

In the 60s and 70s foreign holidays were not the norm. They were relatively expensive and a real sacrifce for the the majority. Package holidays and sun made them more obtainable and desirable.

We have obviously enjoyed relative, (false/borrowed?) prosperity since until 2008.

We became accustomed to cheap foreign travel but it isn't a right it has to be earned. If it can't be earned , for whatever reason, just adapt and move on.

The impact on basic commodities concerns me not luxuries.
