bagpuss - I had very little time for myself prior to uni - with two toddlers and a teenager and working 3-4 full days a week (hour commute either way on top). But I used to class being in work as "me" time just because I could wee and eat my dinner in peace :rotfl:
But I feel I do still have time for myself when I go into uni or the library - probably because I am enjoying my studies. But it does mean coffee and lunch in peace again or I meet up with other students so I get an adult conversation
You do have to "make" time and you will if you really want to do it. A number of people say I am mad and they just don't have the time to go to college etc but personally if it is what you want you will manage
I am in a better routine than I was in September and the house is back to what it was - if not better because I am preparing for babys arrival - I was in shock then at what I had taken on and really considered waiting a year, but I need to return to work as soon as possible for financial reasons so decided to bite the bullet and keep going. As I can now see the end of the first year in sight - I am so glad I did. It has flown by!!! Final assignment of the year is due 13th May (baby is due 13th April) and then I am off for the summer, which I am really looking forward to.
You will find your own way and what works for your family, as obviously we all function differently and our priorities are not the same.
Good luck with the application form!!!! xxxxxxx0 -
Awh yes being able to finish a cup tea!
To go to the toilet on ones own!
To be able to wake up at my own pace with out demands to be fed!
How i miss these things lol
But love my babies muchly
I am really looking forward to the aspect of stretching myself, currently i feel i am stuck in a rut.
I am approaching my 39th birthday, i'm overweight and mentally plodding along.
Now is the time for change, i want to hit my forties looking and feeling better.
Last time i studied was 10 years ago and i loved it so much!
Hope baby doesnt come early chonorla!

As you are worried about time management - why not start the routine changes now -very gently ..... like going off to study elsewhere now so come September it's not a huge shock for the family as they'll already have the "What to do when Mum's studying routine" in place. September is going to be stressful enough starting something new without constant texts of "Mum what do we do with/about"I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Sounds like a great plan duchy!
Might take myself off for a pootle to the local library and check out the maths books.SIMPLY BE-££577.11:eek:

A word of warning, the midwifery courses in university are seriously oversubscribed....I think there is an average of twelve applicants for every place.
If you can, try to get some volunteer experience in your closest maternity ward or better still apply for a job as a health care assistant. Also look at student midwife forums for help with your personal statement and interview skills.
Unfortunately being a Mum doesn't automatically mean they'll take you on.....
Good Luck!!0 -
I'm a mum on an access course, I'm off to uni in September also. My girls are 5 & 3!
It's really hard work and I have got four assignments due in on the same day before we break up for Easter! I second/third the need to do studying outside of the house. I used to live within walking distance of the college and used the library a lot, now I live 40 minutes away and I struggle so much more to get the work done!
I hope it goes well for you!0 -
I think online education is the best way to learn for all busy Professional, working women, single parents and mothers. In such education era we learn learn things from our place and can manage both the Job and the studies.0

12 lol, more like 50!
I did access course last year. There were about 60 women who wanted to become midwives and only 6 got accepted at uni (thats with 2 local unis offering the course)
Most changed plans mid course, due to competition and have now gone into paediatric or adult nursing degrees, with the hope they can do the cross-over to midwifery at some time in the future0
