Hard to say nowadays, AFAIK it's still coming this summer, but we haven't seen anything new recently.

That really depends on the level of kickback given and the hassle in jumping through loops to get it. Also the upfront trouble and cost of switching from oil to a qualifying alternative....

Keep checking on here as there's a few of us watching for news ;)

The publication of policy on deployment of RHI to households is due in March, but is dependant on Parliamentary debates having taken place. The scheme is scheduled to start late summer, so probably this time next year!

From what I have read, with the incentives offered over 7 years rather than 20, it looks quite attractive. But much will depend on individual circumstances. I could imagine where you have an old oil boiler that is about to conk, it would be worth the investment. Especially for those that have solar pv and are considering a heat pump.

    No one knows yet.

It's not so much the hassle, it's more the elevated prices we'll have to pay for anything qualifying for the rhi.

I've had a quote for a heat pump system, plus rads and all the work, rhi qualifying for £18.5k, which took me back a bit. The finances - payback time etc - were calculated on the average rhi rate from the range published. I expect if the rates are more generous, then the price will rise, and if less, then the quote will be lowered, such is the market distortion due to subsidies. The mcs qualifying stove I'm also considering now has a massive £3.5k price tag, whereas I'd estimate the true value to be around half that.

There's no rush - although the rhpp will disappear once the rhi rates are announced, the rhpp will be taken off the rhi payments anyhow, so no need to rush to get the rhpp.
  • I think the powers that be are very concerned about a solar pv style goldrush.

One of the reason for the higher priced quote is that all the work needs to be done to MCS standards.

Domestic RHI launch set for Spring 2014, RHPP extended to March 2014, non-domestic RHI tariff reviews, air-to-water ASHP to be included

does anyone actually believe it will happen?

the delays must be putting many people off -not good for the businesses that are trying to get going

  • It does not surprise me it has been delayed yet again. A while ago i'm sure I posted that I did not think it would ever happen but then thought perhaps it would with the launch of the Green Deal...

Your right about affecting businesses badly as firms I know are so cheesed of having invested in the MCS FITs/RHI mess have decided to stay well clear of the Green Deal. At the end of the day they get plenty of business from plumbing/gas/oil so why get emboiled in yet another expensive scheme strangled by red tape...

I'm not convinced that it will ever be implemented. My heatpump & heating system was installed in 2010, where I missed out on any installation subsidy, likewise I've missed out on the incentive payment schemes as well. The only benefit I managed was that the VAT was only 5% on the whole installation.

As I've said on other threads, if there was mains gas where we live, then thats what I would have had but the alternatives of Oil, LPG or wood were unattractive as I'd have to make arrangements for storage and deliveries. The outdoor unit takes up a lot less space than a tank (oil or gas) or bin/shed for wood and is surprisingly quiet.

The installation is doing what it's supposed to do, it keeps the house warm and cozy and is reasonably economical to run even in this really cold winter. A fair bit cheaper than we paid for mains gas in our last place and a lot cheaper than my neighbours are paying for their Oil & LPG at the moment
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

    Still waiting for the RHI?

I was quite keen on micro CHP, until the price tag for the BAXI EcoGEN appeared.

So the "plan" now is to replace the condensing boiler new in 2010 around 2020 with a micro CHP, which hopefully has come down to £2,000 replacement cost.

I would like them to do a self-sustaining mode, so in the even of a power cut, the 1kW it generates will power the central heating system (central heating pump, zone valve, programmer, boiler computer).

Alternatively, a 2kW generator that runs on Natural Gas will be fine. £500?

In the context of LPG, Heating Oil, Solid & Other Fuels.

Baxi ECOGEN.. what a joke that was :rotfl:

I got a quote for the the LPG version prior to the ASHP and what a paradox... Burn super expensive LPG to generate a few watts

If it was reliable and did not cost 3 times the price of a normal boiler then there might be a place for it.

It'd be cheaper to get solar panels or spend a bit more and go the whole hog and install a renewables system. Or just insulate and buy a more efficient normal boiler. Perhaps even keep the cash to buy more LPG...
