o/s daily Sunday 24th February

O/S Daily Sunday 24th February This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well”

Morning Halight and all to follow,

Halight hope you managed to get some sleep, I am early to go and collect my dd :j, whos flight is due in about now :D, I cant tell you how much I have missed her but what an adventure for her, she will probably sleep most of the day, but its nice knowing she is back under my roof.

I have kind of left dinner up to dd she has been living on rice or mash with cabbage for 2 weeks and is sick of the sight of them, last time I spoke with her she was wanting an omlette and chips, which is easy, but we will see, she is also longing for a cup of decent tea, and a bath.

Will just potter at home today, did a good clean through yesterday, so will just have to strip our bed and get that washed.

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning halight, redruby and to all who cross/follow,
We had a little bit of snow during the night. The bins are covered but didn't lay very much on the ground. Doesn't seem as cold today, at the moment anyway.
redruby, enjoy having you dd back home. It is certainly a nice feeling knowing that they are back under your roof. It sounds like she had a great time.
Hubby is at work. Girls are still in bed. Will let them sleep as it will be back to getting up early again for school as of tomorrow.
Need to get more ironing done. It has been never ending. Will take the dog out for a nice walk. Did housework yesterday but will have a quick going over again later.
Went and paid half for dd's prom dress yesterday. You pay the other half when it is ready for collection. It was the first shop we went in. She fell in love with it. We did go to other shops and she tried on several more dresses but still favoured the first dress. She looked lovely. It will be quite emotional seeing her all dressed up, looking girly. Especially as she will have hair, her lashes have started to grow, still gaps all over the place but never the less, growth is growth. Her first eyebrow is still there and the other brow is showing signs of growth.
Tea tonight is roast chicken with potatoes and vegetables.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning all:j:j

I' back up and about again.
Iv been up about half an hour.

I did In the end go back to bed and fall back to sleep at about 3:30-4:00am.

I woke Up at about 1:20ish with tooth ace like pain in my of my knees:eek: I could not get back to sleep after that. So I got up. Put the radio i player on and listened to the bbc world service for a bit, While the pain killers started to work.

Now Ever sicnce the first brain tumor that I have had removed 13 years ago this year!(Time flys) I have been left with Neuropathic pain I get this in both of my legs.

    Link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuropathic_pain

Now at times the pain can be very bad. Bad enough that I can not even walk. But In the main It has been under control with tablets, Pain killer's and others. But That pain. i get In my legs and feet. Not In my knees! And the pain last night was jsut in my knees:(
Anyway things carmed down in the end. And I have had some sleep. i may have a lay down this afternoon when the Kids are at there Great grand parent's

Dinner tonight for us here is the 2nd of them turkey thighs . Bot sure if we will do the same with it as last week or if we will do another sort of sauce/gravy with it.

We had a lovely meal out last night with my Mum.Dad, And brother, He partner did not come as he was unwell.

Yesterdays shopping trip out cost the earth. But the girls now have there new shoes for school and we are hoping that they will last until they Break up In July. We have always tried to buy them one really good pair of shoes., They own cheep sandals and pumps and trainers.
the the shoes they wear the most ever since they were babies have always been clacks and when you need two pairs at a time the bill really dose mount up.:eek:
We try to do this as they only have small and narrow feet. And clarks to letter size's so we can get a better fitting shoe. We believe that kids feet need the shoe to fit right as we would like to try and stop and feet problems from developing,
They are In these shoes for hours a day. Feet are very important and more so In the young were they still have bones growing.

The last pair they had were In September, They have worn them everyday for school and also they have been worn at weekends. At £32 a pair they cost a lot. But they have had there wear out of them. They are now starting to fall apart. There new ones cost just one or two pounds more. But we have gone for a more bulky sole this time.

I also had a new Coat. I have need one now for a while. But due to money Iv been putting it off. Anyway yesterday there were some street market traders. And I found one I liked. At a cost of £20.:j:j So I'm happy about that.
I'm cheep but the Girls In my life and high maintenance:rotfl::rotfl:

Well Have a great day all:rotfl::rotfl:

    Happy Sunday everyone.

Redruby: What stories you will hear today. I bet your DD will be exhausted and ad a bit mind blown with all she has seen and done. Have a happy time.

Foreversaving: It's quite frightening to see your little girl all grown-up isn't it. So glad her hair is growing, she will feel so much better about herself. It's a really tough thing for a young girl to go through.

Usual Sunday here. The Rev is preaching in Cowes today so she is dropping me off at a friends until it's time for church and someonelse is delivering me back home. This is the one downside of car-sharing. Obviously her need is paramount but I hate being dependent on other people, thankfully it doesn't happen often.

Then it's lunch - we've given up on Sunday roasts, there is never enough time to enjoy it - so today it's a quick ham, egg and chips.

Then one more pudding to make for Open arms this evening, all the donated food to trolley round to the church and unpack into cupboards and by then the first clients will be arriving. Finally stagger back home and sink into the nearest chair.

There used to be a hymn in the olden days, that started off 'O day of rest and gladness' that my mother always refused to sing. I can see why.

Have a happy day everyone - even if it's not full of rest and gladness!

    Morning everyone

Halight - you sleeping pattern is getting nearly as bad as mine! Having said that I have been going to bed at a more reasonable time lately and have been able to sleep most of the night.

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dry, cloudy, and a tiny amount of snow on top of the shed but none laying on the ground here this morning.

Loved looking at the orphanage pics - babies all look well cared for, your daughter is doing a sterling job, you must be really proud x

DH up and now in the bath. He got back at 6pm last night after his meetings, and we're off out to another later today.

Dinner last night went down well, but boys didn't do their chores so kitchen looks a complete bomb site as dirty crocks, cooking dishes and pans all over, DS2 is now up having a cuppa then he says he will empty the DW (DS2 empties the DW and DS1 fills it) - found it was the easiest way to stop any arguments over who did what and the "I've done more than him" arguments!! Not really sure what we will be eating today as what we do and how long we are out will dictate meal times etc. DS2 still fast asleep in his pit.

Watched the Rugby whilst getting the dinner cooked last night, good game, don't ever bother watching Football but rarely miss the Rugby - think it's those big broad athletic guys in the shorts! and the fact they play with complete commitment and dedication - none of this rolling around the on the ground injured after tripping over a blade of grass! One of players last night had his head bandaged up as had an injury to his ear and carried on playing - he was then seen by medics after the game and had 19 stiches to sew his ear back on that had been partially hanging off! Thats complete dedication and commitment.

Have a peaceful Sunday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

Hubby's been dropped at work, so no break for him for a while.
I've found the worlds smallest pork joint buried in the depths of the freezer, I'll cook that for lunch & then use the rest for hubby's sarnies as I can't eat it.
I finished another blanket last night, I've got a grey & pink one that just needs sewing up, I'll do that one today.
I have 2 dozen HM ready meals in the freezer for lunches & all the work clothes are hung in the wardrobe, so an easy start to next week, well 'til I get to work, lol.
Nmlc, that's exactly what hubby says, he loves watching rugby.
Ouch Halight, painful knees & a big spend.
    Have a good day everyone
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

redruby hope your daughter lands safely. Bet she has lots of tales to tell. My boy is back from his drunken weekend in Brussles today, not quite the same:o but I too will be glad to have him back.
Halight I know what you mean about knee pain. Never have I had such pain in the night, its driving me mad, roll on the hospital appointment.
Need to nip out today, also will call and see DGS and DD as she has a few jobs for her dad to do. She is single again, I do worry about her but she is strong and organised I shouldn't really. She manages far better than I would on my own.
The house is all clean and tidy, just some last bits to wash before school and work tomorrow.
Tea tonight is pork, and I have some cauliflower that wants using up.
No snow here but it keeps trying. Have a good Sunday whatever your up to J x
