Um, no, there is everything wrong with running a business from home ...your original statement was totally incorrect..

The statement I originally responded to only stated that it is illegal to run a business from home; and I pointed out that this is not the case - running a business from home is perfectly legal. In fact, running any kind of business from your home is legal; just some may require permissions/permits first.

Firstly thank you all for your comments

Poppy9 No its not the same house I pulled out of that one. I like living here and I dont want to leave because of him. Im not scared so I will fight it.

d123 I did mean injunction but honestly and injection will also do sometimes

When I purchased this house, I had some external work done to it, so I took a bottle of drink for him, sweets for the wife and kids because I thought I disurbed them. We spoke and he told me his rent is £1000.

Naf He is clearly cheating because after the first complain I made, the council wrote to the neighbour. He came to my house and said “this is how I feed my children if you stop me you will see what I will do to you”

Please understand I have no intention of depriving food from anyone especially children. I donate to 2 London children charities on a monthly bases for years now. But this is my life and I have the right to enjoy my house. I work 12 hours a day and I want to rest and not be directly involved with the smells, sight or sounds of a car garage/dealer in a cal-de- 5 feet away from my home.

His response to the council and the police – No this is my hobby its not a business. I enjoy fixing cars. I fix it and sell it, that’s not illegal. My cctv shows the man hysterically running around all day with various cars and customers and paperwork. I get exhausted watching him he is so busy until 2300 sometimes. It looks wrong.

00ec25 Thank you, I know all this but it is so hard trying to get through to these people. They make me feel like Im doing something wrong. Its our system.

Look there is nothing wrong with Polish people, I believe they are hard working and some very nice people. And there is nothing wrong from running a business from home - But as long as its not disturbing others.

I have as much right in this life as the next person but its hard to accept when someone is saying, they are more important then you are.
  • Of course you can write to your councillor but you can also go and speak to him/her. They usually hold surgeries once a week so if you find out when they are it might be easier to go and talk ?

Everything else apart - he cannot work after 9pm either - thats environmental health dept too.

HMRC and Trading Standards might be you best bet to get things rolling. Councils are just full of leaches getting paid for do nothing.

So you know he's generating income from servicing cars - and paying £1000 per month in rent - but you haven't explained how you know he's claiming any benefits - and what benefits these might be.

To start with he must be on some housing benefits, how else can one afford to pay for that rent without working full time? He is not only servicing other peoples cars, he is buying luxury cars fixing them and selling them. As a private seller.

You may say its speculations but this is what we have witnessed
If anything the partner is working part time (low income) so we think he is supposed to be looking after the kids, but in reality he is working on cars all day. The police who come to my house to see how I am are also questing this.

Keep a diary of everything and report him to everyone?

Let them do their job and if there's something amiss, hope they sort it.

But according to you he IS working full-time - running a car servicing business. And also buying and selling cars. You say you've seen him "hysterically running around all day with various cars and customers and paperwork. I get exhausted watching him he is so busy until 2300 sometimes."

He could be making quite a decent income from all that! (Particularly if it's all being done cash in hand with no VAT or income tax).

Also bear in mind that people can work and claim housing benefit if on a low income - also there are other benefits available to people in work on low incomes.

I'm not suggesting he should be running a business like this from a residential property - he may be violating all sorts of regulations and laws (and perhaps evading tax). But it seems you don't actually have any evidence he's committing benefit fraud.

    "vindictiveness"

possible tax evasion from cash in hand business - report him to HMRC

Is it Vindictive or Public Duty? Tax evasion, benefit fraud are both costing honest tax payers money.

We cannot employ enough officers to check every single person so you have to rely on people being public spirited and reporting a crime.

You wouldn't call someone vindictive for reporting an abusive parent to Childline, Social Services or the Police.
