what I need is something more economic than a focus 1.6 zetec (petrol) so even if it is a 50+mpg rate it would be an improvement in my fuel economy. Won't be doing more than 8000 miles per year. Reliability is the key factor and a bonus would be something that offers a decent bit of room ideally fold down flat back seats.

If I could get a 2012 car for £10k that fits that bill I'd be rather happy regardless of the make, though there are certain exceptions.

Are there any suggestions on this 2012 cars for less money then?

Unless there is something seriously wrong with your Focus you are extremely unlikely to actually save money by chopping it in for something newer.

You may save a bit on fuel but you'll lose it in other areas (mainly depreciation)
