Would you go to a concert on your own?

  • If it's Paris, is it going to be the Zennith?

If so, it's not a scary place. Same rules apply, sensible footwear and know your route.

No its the Palais Omnisports but can't go because I'm not back in the UK til May and she plays Paris in May :o.
  • This is very true, I couldn't believe the reaction actors and actresses get the moment they just step on stage at the theatre in the US. Here in the UK we wait for them to prove themselves (and make it worth our money!) first. And, from my experience, if you are sitting/standing next to someone in the US and you DON'T speak to them/make small talk - it is often considered discourteous. Its the opposite of London life lol!

Although - I do remember seeing a big country duo (Sugarland) in Glasgow a few years ago...the opening act was the daughter of some big country music hot-shot (can't remember who). anyhow, it was a small venue with a bar at the back. The young american lady opening the concert was totally amazed that people were actually listening to her instead of ignoring her in favour of queing up at the bar, which is what she said happened stateside.
  • Beyonce is headlining V festival on 17/18 August so you and your friend may still get to see her :)

Thank you, I saw this earlier and realised that as much as I love her I wouldn't camp for her :rotfl:. I'm too old, too germaphobic and too high maintenance to do a festival. Who would have thought I used to be a rock chick, eh? My teenage self would be ashamed. Although even she (secretly) loved Beyonce back then too!

Yeah, I sing professionally in my spare time too and I've noticed that crowds vary from place to place. If its a bar/ party atmosphere I always expect that people will talk or shout over me, and you learn not to get offended. When I sang over in Ireland as a teenager, the crowd requested I do an encore and proceeded to talk really loudly over me. Yet I sang in the US in a bar at 12 (yeah, I know, what was I doing singing in a bar at 12?) and you could have heard a pin drop. I was really freaked out a couple of weeks ago when I sang at a birthday party and everyone just sat and listened. No talking over me. No nipping out for a fag. They just sat there and listened as if I was giving a concert rather than singing in the background in the corner of the room. And that was in a bit of a dive!

I think crowds just vary from place to place. And they also have an effect on each other. From my experience, it only takes one loud person and then the whole room ends up talking over each other and not listening to the act.

But I doubt any of this applies if you are Beyonce ;).

You can buy day tickets for V no camping required
  • I've been to a variety of concerts, mostly with others but sometimes on my own. My tastes are eclectic and not all of my friends like all of the styles of music I like, e.g. noone would go to see Keith Urban with me because they don't like country. He was awesome, so their loss. :D

Anyway... have never felt unsafe, even the crowd at Metallica in the 90s (mostly 20-40 year old men) was well behaved. Almost everyone is just there to enjoy the show. And as others have said, I'd be surprised if a Beyonce crowd was in any way rowdy!
  • I'll quite happily go to a gig on my own an have done, and I'm a 5ft tall girl.

Just have some common sense and save some cash for a cab home :)
