Retailers are also not above raising the price for a month or so before dropping it.....so it looks like a great deal. Argos are infamous for it as are supermarkets.

You may also want to check from a different computer/connection as apparently retailers have also taken to individual pricing. Was on watchdog last year. It was sometimes giving special deals/prices to new customers only - ie old customers were seeing a whole different website.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I bought a litre of petrol in January, however in February Esso wanted to charge more for the same product. True story ;-)

Fact is a retailer can charge what they want, and it is up to the buyer to decide if that represents a deal or not at that moment. In all likelihood, the TV will go back down to the previous price and be marked 'SALE!!!' at some point, which is legal if dubious. Sofa companies are dreadful for this.

So that's what John Lewis do then? Raise their prices to repeat customers.

Some sites are believed to adjust offers dynamically according to the interest the person has shown in a particular product - whether or not John Lewis would is another question (I suspect not - it tends to be bottom-feeder-type companies).

The idea is if someone is actively seeking 'xyz' product and has bought it from one supplier 10x then another might offer a lower price, or the original supplier may sneak the prices up as customers might stick around so profits increase. You can see this counterintuitive type of behaviour in action with insurance companies who will happily gouge loyal customers and discount for new ones.

It is ridiculous to say that John Lewis would do this.
