Hi
New to this forum and just wanted to query this with you lot.
Emailed the following to JL;

Hi
We purchased a flat screen tv (Panasonic TX-L47E5B) on the 28th December (for £569 )and today we wanted to buy another for our parents only to find you have put the price up to £649.99!

Can you explain why this is?

Reply:
Thank you for your email regarding the price of the Panasonic Viera TX-L47E5B LED HD 1080p smart TV.

The prices of the products at John Lewis.com are subject to change and are set by our suppliers. They can be affected by a variety of different factors.

Regrettably, I am unable to give you a precise reason why this television has gone up in price, as this information is not available to me.

I apologise for any disappointment caused and hope you will not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

I don't feel I got much of an answer from them,sounded like they couldn't be bothered to find out why.if they don't have the answer who would!

This is the exact model;

  • Incidentally Richer sounds sell it for £549 which was £20 cheaper than JL at the time but preferred the 5 year warranty.
  • Prices change on a daily basis according to supply and demand, why would you expect the price to remain the same two months later?

    Maybe the member of staff didnt know because as a company JL weren't informed of the reason by Panasonic.

    Maybe ask Panasonic for the reason.
  • Perhaps I'm naive but I thought prices of electrical stuff tended to come down with time that's all

    Welcome. :) Supply and demand? Overheads increasing? New batch which cost them more than the last batch? Exchange rate?

    Prices go up all the time - I can assure you Tesco are not charging the same for every item as before Christmas. Amazon have that TV cheaper I think.

    They can go either way, many factors dictate the prices retailers end up charging.

    There were lots of sales on when you bought the tv now, so even if it was not officially reduced in JL, the price may have been lower to match their competitors.
  • probably on price establishment. put the price up so that you can discount it in the future and claim a saving
  • Richersounds also offer a 5 year on some sets but you do have to pay for it, may well be worth looking into.
    I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
