I feel like this too, but have only come to the realisation that I need to find something else fairly recently.

I run a small charity and up until December I had another staff member with me, however, she resigned and now I am doing everything, which is incredibly draining. We have applied for funding, a part of which would go towards recruiting someone else, but if we don't get it I'm not sure what we'll do. I guess we'll just carry on with me juggling everything.

My main problem is, that I don't know what job I want to move into! Should I stay in the voluntary sector, should I work in a different area of the voluntary sector. So things are all up in the air at the moment and I am having to do something serious thinking :o

Oh dear.. so not just me then?

Absolutely feel for anyone who dreads to get out of bed 5 days a week and spend 8 hours a day in job they do not like even a tiny bit with people that one would rather avoid and gets paid just to cover the bills and fare to get to/from work.

Fingers crossed all will change - for the better preferably...
  • I like my work, it's the managers that suck. Disorganised chaos and reactive managers who consistently attempt to absolve them of blame and pass this onto other staff.

    Ho hum ....life goes on.

8 hours a day with 1 hr lunch break would be a blessing, try doing a job you hate 5 days a week working 8am till 630pm lunch at your desk no overtime pay (contracted to do 8hrs a day)!!

If your mood is that low, please talk to someone. Make an appt with your GP to access help.

I think this important point deserves a repeat. Your GP is best-placed to help you with these feelings. An appt would be advice well heeded.

I have not long left and unhappy job - before I left I went to see my doctor, he was great. He offered me a few things. Councelling, anti-depressants and more importantly he said that sometimes whats needed is some time out. He offered me a 2 week sick note.

I wish I had've took that sick note and spent the time looking for other work rather than getting so stressed that I made myself ill and resigned in a blow out. Just saying...

I do feel for you. Your situation sounds tough and I can understand why you're drained. I hope things become clearer as to direction. I guess the decision about the funding could play a big part in what happens next.

All the best to you :)
  • Seems there are quite a few of us around.... Let's hope things get better in 2013!

I feel I'm wishing my life away, enjoying weekends but then when Monday comes wishing the days away until Friday. No wonder the months keep rolling by!
  • The job may suck but do you do anything on the nights? Any hobbies to look forward to? Anything midweek to break the long week up?

I'll just add my name to the list :D

But yeah its hard when nothing you do works out, when your at the stage of needing doctors etc who then brush you off like everyone else has, and the hardest thing is there is no end in sight.

All you can do is keep trying, I'm at the stage where every single day without fail I check job listings at lunch time and as soon as I get home, its soul destroying when 9 times out of 10 there is nothing even to apply for, I think I average 1 job a month which has led to nothing which is hardly surprising I guess. What I have started doing to keep my spirits up is send out speculative CV's, the response rate is low, I get about 1 reply in 10 which is usually sorry nothing at the moment, but at least it makes you feel like your doing something, occasionally it works, I've an interview on Tuesday with a firm who inform me they've been thinking of hiring an S.O (whatever that is) for a while but never got around to it, so I am hoping that leads to something. You could also try retraining, I went back to Open University, again it makes you feel like you're doing something towards getting out of that hell hole.

But your certainly not alone with this issue although it probably feels that way, when I started my crappy job I thought I was the only one who disliked working there, I've since got talking to co workers and discovered they all feel the same, they are just good at hiding it.

I think its sad that businesses these days can treat people like this, if you don't like it on you go, you're easily replaceable is the attitude, they really couldn't give a rats about you.
