No Till Receipts at the Coop!!!

I have shopped at the coop for years - it is obviously very convenient. I have however never received an itemised receipt. The cynical side of me believes that the Coop would not wish to offer us such a receipt. It is surely far better for them to make a hefty profit when mistakes go unchallenged because they are unrecognised by a debit card receipt which gives only the total cost of goods purchased. The cynical side of me thinks that the Coop is relying on the fact that most people will accept what they have been given and wont ask for an itemised receipt.

I know that I can ask for the till receipt and I have done but the person serving me appeared almost affronted by the request.

This always happens in my local Co Op too.

If you want a receipt you have to ask for it and the assistant does get aggravated by the fact you're asking for it.

Odd, my local co-op always gives me a receipt without me asking for one. May just be policy at your local one?
  • I've emailed the Co op about it. I will keep you posted with their reply. :)

My local Co-op always gives receipts. Just as well, as yesterday I left my toilet rolls there so today went back, showed my receipt and they gave me a new pack. :-D

My local Co-op doesn't give out till receipts, so I always have to ask, even if I've paid by debit card. Then they hand it over and say "Ooh, you've also got a voucher for £xx off a £xx spend!" Wonder how many of those don't get handed out to the customer?

our Coop alwasy asks if you want a receipt, if I am buying more than 2 items I always say yes.

Too many mistakes not to. Youve no comeback later on if you think youve been overcharges.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

The cashiers at my Co-Op insist on giving you a receipt. If you start to walk off you are barked out loudly to "Wait for the receipt, duck!"
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."

Same here, McKneff. None given unless you ask, and I don't bother just for one item, but I make a habit of asking for and checking a receipt for more than one item. Too many mistakes, as you say!
  • Receipts aren't given out in my local Co-op either, they used to until about 6 months ago, now you have to ask.
