Vasectomy Reversal

I very much doubt you will get NHS funding what ever the circumstances these days- they will take the view that you chose this op knowing the permanant effects. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but there has recently been a real clampdown and GPS aren't even supposed to refer for "non essential/unproven treatments" such as grommet sfor kids with glue ear....
Privately the prices mentioned here seem about what I have heard.
I would think long and hard before taking on a cost that has a pretty poor chance of sucess.
I think you would be wise to look at all options incl adoption/fostering and newer medical proceedures such as sperm extraction and IVF as, with no proven female problems you may find that you are in a really good "risk group" for an IVF pregnancy and they will at least have screened the sperm to make sure they are healthy and the embryos form well (after vasectomy, not only the "tubes" get blocked but the sperm start to be destroyed by antiboidies et-you can easily reconnect the tubes but whether the sperm is health after is an unknown).
PS Petereverton. I see from the siggy strip you will be debt free in 2010, be very wary of borrowing more (but you know that). Think hard about adopting- there are so many kids out there that really need good parents- you can be a brilliant Dad and have a wonderful family without having to have been the "sperm donor" you know!0 -
Hi
My partner has just had this operation on Monday last week....so I cant give you an update on whether it has worked!!! I can tell you that you wont get this on the NHS and will have to go private..You will need a GP referral to get it as well...
We paid a fixed price for the entire op and one follow up consulatation....The Doctor and Staff were great and at the intial consulatation was very blunt about the chances and it doesnt rely on the male partner regaining full usage. It can also depend on the females age, medicla history etc and they will not automatically let you have one just because you are paying for it.
A good Doctor will always recommend that you go to a specialist and not to a 'payg' clinic......as well, quite frankly, you'll get what you pay for!!!
Hope this helps!

(sorry a bit extra re above - our consultant told us that we were going down the right route as getting a reversal before IVF as this makes things less complicated for the IVF route)Happy to be Debt Free!!!0 -
My partner had a vasectomy in 1999, met me, I wanted a child, and he had a reversal in 2005. We now have a 6 month bouncing baby girl.
NHS would not entertain us so we went private (we live in Glasgow) and it cost £1600. Chances of success were given as 50/50.
One bit of advice to the women - work out your fertile days (only 2 or 3 of them a month) and have some fun then. Get the ovulation tests (buy in bulk), do it then and dont stress.
Oh and we are both 38.0 -

If it works then its worth every penny. we got refered by gp we didnt want children stright away but wanted it reversed as the longer you leave it the lower the change of sucess. It cost us 2100 and that included initial consolation op which was a day case and a test which you have about 4 months after. We where told that sperm where there but where low numbers and they where anti bodies present which will reduce the chance. We didnt want to try for a baby stright away but decided not to use protection as the chances where small and I fell pregnant within the 6 months, Oh was 34 and I was 20.0 -

I had the snip when I was 22. Stupid choose I know.
I was not thinking long time. I was in the Army and I thought I new what I wanted.
Just wanted to wish you best of luck - it sounds like you weren't really counselled all that well, at 22 it's almost impossible to be able to make that sort of decision with genuine certainty, whether it felt like it at the time or not. I hope this works out for you x0
