    The accuracy of an electricity meter is usually checked by the installation of a second 'check' meter alongside the existing one for a short period of days/weeks.

    The users signature gives a clue why they are seeing not just their own meter ;)

    First drain discovered was a 100W bulb in the loft permanently on...so that's 2.4kw per day for starters.....now sorted.

    You think? My understanding is that the small pump only uses 30-50W but I may be wrong...

    When I fitted a light up in my loft, I put it on a PIR (same as you'd buy for the garden) to stop exactly this situation. Bonus is as soon as I drop the door to get the ladder, the light comes on.

    No, it is 2.4kWh per day.

    only last week a customer was honest enough to tell me her smart meter had only logged a few units in a week, despite being a normal average user and was surprised that British Gas had not noticed the big under useage .have had other people say their meters had been over recording and had to be replaced. One person told me they can go wrong if given a good knock. Thats the first I have heard about that particular fault.
