Vent: Re wetherpoons in the midlands

Yes but unless I've misread the OP has no complaints with the quality of the food. Their complaints are down to the service they received. All the "alternatives" look like places where you get your own food and don't receive waiter service. Therefore they are not comparable.
Meh...lots of local coffee shops have waiter service....
In any case, you're right - OP doesn't seem to mind the food there, which is something, I guess....but in my experience, you can certainly get much nicer food elsewhere - and in this instance, for no more money.
You also get much better service in these places (whether with waiter service or not...) - again, people pay less at spoons, but expect less in the way of service.
If you're not paying less, you're just going somewhere with low quality food and poor service (in my experience at least) for no reason.0 -

I agree that WS food is quite basic but their coffee is OK and so is their beer and other alcoholic drinks.
And they have one great advantage over most other pubs (at least the ones I use have): No TV's blaring out and no fruit machines, etc.
And, of course, the prices are very reasonable - especially for coffee. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Sadly spoons have sold out and many have TVs, fruit machines and quiz machines. It was an unwelcome developmentThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Idiophreak wrote: »What? Where can you get a panini and a coffee for £6+? For real?
Try:
Cafe Nero
Costa
Starbucks (if you don't mind the taste of evil)
Pret
BHS
Debs
Local coffee shops
...I've got a panini and a coffee for about £7 in a service station, come to that...I'm struggling to think of anywhere that sells paninis and coffee that would be significantly more...
Fine, some of these places may be £6.50, some may even be £7 - some may be £5.50, who knows...but the food, drink and service in any of them would likely better wetherspoons by some distance.
And OP, really, just had a cake...so a cake, panini, coffee and coke...Fairly sure you could do that for £12 at any of the above.
If the OP *had* got a couple of full meals and drinks for £12, I'd agree - you can't do much better - and that's why people go to wetherspoons to eat...to get cheap food! Not to get regular priced food...
But NONE of the places you have mentioned are the kind of places you were hinting at that offer some kind of 'restaurant service.' Nor are ANY of them better than Wetherspoons; NOR any cheaper. None of them would give more food or better service for a cheap price.
I go to Wetherspoons about once a month and the prices quoted by the OP are correct, yet you seem to be seriously implying that the OP is lying. Some paninis are actually a fiver each, depending on the content of them. You should go and look at the prices, before nit picking or implying someone is bulls**ting.
The nitpicking is a tad pedantic, when the OP was simply posting about the issue with the waitress's attitude. Also, comparing like you are doing, is like someone saying they had bad service when they got a blouse from the NEXT store for £15.00, and someone has a go at them, saying 'at Tesco, you could have got the whole OUTFIT for fifteen pounds; skirt and blouse and socks and shoes!' They're different shops and it's ridiculous to compare.
I'm not sure I can understand the pedantic nit picking and the Spanish Inquisition. Why are you making such an issue of her paying £12 for 2 meals and 2 drinks??? Why does it bother you so much. Even though she's answered you with the individual prices, (when she didn't have to,) you're still grilling and bleating how much cheaper she could have got it elsewhere. Why does it matter???
Also, I agree that I have never found three courses, and a drink for just £6.00; anywhere.
OP, I would definitely say something to the manager; maybe write in with your complaint... the service really is not good enough. How are they going to know there's an issue if nobody says?0 -

Completely disagree. I love it there. Me and my friends and family go there a lot, and never have any problems at all ever. Can't believe actually, that someone would suggest BHS cafe as an alternative. :rotfl:
And Goater is correct, that the OP never complained about the food OR the prices! So this droning on about how much cheaper food is elsewhere is pointless and inane.0 -
When Weatherspoon first started to spread across the country, the food was always excellent value and most times was hot and decent, even at the cheap price.
But now it is very hit and miss.
Take the burger and chips, the burger was always nice and the chips plentiful and hot, in my experience. I always knew that I would come out full up and happy at the quality and cost. Now it's 50/50 whether it is the hot side of warm and the amount of chips is pitiful, compared to what you got years ago.
When it comes to meals like burger and chips, I'd rather go to the greasy spoon cafe, where in all the cafes I have been in, the burger is cooked fresh and you get a nice large plate of chips and if you say no salad, they don't use that as an excuse to leave a quarter of the plate empty, you get more chips.
Ok not healthy, but if you want burger and chips, you're hardly expecting it to be. You also at least get a choice of eating as many chips as you want, rather than thinking, I could have done with more chips.0 -

That is a shame.
The two that I occasionally enter have neither (yet) so I just hope they introduce them (or not) depending on the local conditions.
I remember the one in Hammersmith had a TV but at least it had the sound turned off. (This was about eighteen months ago, though.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Yours might be ok then. Most of them stuck tvs in for the 2010 World Cup and kept them in. I think all the manc ones have tvs. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Poor excuse, the job is what it is and its at a legal amount of remuneration. If the stroppy one can't be bothered to do the job right then they should leave regardless of their opinion of the pay.
Weatherspoons or not there is a minimum standard expected and she failed miserablyDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
