Easyvan hire - big warning

Options
Might be off-topic but I need to rant.

Booked a van through easyvan.com today for tomorrow. When I received a receipt it said I couldn't use cash or a debit card when paying the outstanding amount. Since I don't have a credit card I called Europcar to check this out only to be told there were no vans on offer.

Avoid easyvan.com like the plague, they obviously don't have live systems in place.

  • They take visa debit and you would know that before you booked it.

Yes, they do take Visa Debit but only for the first part of the booking. What they don't tell you is that they DON'T take visa debit for the outstanding amount when you go to pick up the van.

Might want to re-read the original post?
  • It also says on their website you must bring a valid credit car when you collect the van. Did you even read that bit?

In order to collect your Van you must bring with you the following documents:

A copy of your easyVan Voucher

Valid, original driver's licence for ALL NAMED drivers:
All drivers' licences must be for manual transmission cars. An International Driver's permit/licence may be required for translation purposes if your national licence is not in Roman characters (e.g., Arabic or Chinese) and may only be used in conjunction with the national driver's licence.
UK drivers: photo card licence must be accompanied by the paper counterpart (we do not call the DVLA to confirm the status of a licence).

    Photographic Identification:

Acceptable forms of photo ID for EU residents are:
    • A valid passport - an expired passport can be used up to a maximum of two years after expiry
    • Valid photographic EU or Swiss national identity card
NB: Non EU residents must present a passport

    A valid credit card:
This must be in the principal drivers name and must have sufficient funds available to cover any required deposit.

    Deposit:
A Deposit which is the Suppliers Excess and Fuel deposit will be taken from your credit card at the time of collecting the Vehicle.

    2 valid forms of ID:
You must also provide 2 valid forms of identification in the drivers name when collecting the vehicle (Please check suppliers T&C as some suppliers require this to be the same as the driving licence). The two forms of ID should be utility bills that are no more than 6 months old and must display the name and address of the principal driver.

We CANNOT allocate a Van to you without these documents or if we are unable to collect the deposit from your card (Photocopies, faxes or letters are not acceptable). Please note we will not provide a REFUND in these cases.

NB: Please check the local terms and conditions before completing your booking.
  • I suggest you re title this thread.

Don't sign up to anything online until you have read all the terms and conditions. ;)

It is faily common for rental firms to insist on an open credit line on a credit card. This means they can hammer you if there is any damage when you return the vehicle. They can't do this with a debit card if you only have a few pounds in the account.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

    Exactly the reason why.
  • Avoid these national van hire chains. Find a local garage indie garage that hires vans out.

Local one near me will hire a transit for £50 a day and you can pay by cash when you collect.

Or use a nearly maxed out credit card :rotfl:
