MBNA Credit Limit Increases

Do MBNA still give regular automatic limit increases?

I've had an MBNA card (16.9% £2k limit) for the last 10 months which has a 0% Super Balance Transfer on it which ends in April. I also have a Barclaycard Gold 19.9% £3k limit which I use for my day to day spending and clear in full almost every month (13/17 months I've had the card). I intend retiring the Barclaycard for emergency use only and using MBNA due to the lower APR for the odd month when I don't clear the balance. Max balance I've had on the B/card is £2k and prefer not to go close to my limit so could do with £3k on the MBNA one too.

I don't have the option to request a limit increase online. Is this because I have the 0% deal still running?

You can call them up and ask them to review it but they are quite strict and may ask for the account to be open 12 months.

Then again, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

MBNA may do a credit check however this is usually a soft search with Equifax so shouldn't affect your credit rating at all :o
    Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
  • Im pretty sure they stopped doing automatic ones and instead now rely on you asking/requesting
  • Also be aware that MBNA have historically been really good at increasing your APR on a whim. You'll be notified of course, but just something to bear in mind.

That's not the case. Both my wife and I have had CL increases of £5000 each in the past 2 months.

If it doesn't show the option for a limit increase on your account it doesn't look favourable. My husband has a card and his shows but mine doesn't and last time I asked they said no. Hth

£5K here too, without me asking. Mine's now £24,500.

When requesting an increase, do they give you the answer straight away...?

It used to be within an hour, but now it has to be within office working hours so that a underwriter can check it AFAIK.
  • Jo-bo how long have your accounts been open?

I will be clearing in full most months so apr not too much of an issue. I had a 5 1/2 year old CCJ when I took card at 16.9% so doubt they could justify an increase in apr now
