Millets closing down sale

I think Millets were a better store before being bought over by J D Sports. My sister worked for them for a long number of years and was one of the staff members who all lost their jobs last year when J D Sports bought them over and shut so many of the stores. Our local store was the only store in town which sold camping and outdoor products so it seemed crazy to close a store which had good sales compared to some which they kept open and has lesser sales. After they were bought over, the staff felt that the new owners did not care about their staff members and did not keep them informed well about things so it looks as if this is how they treat their staff and customers. It does have a big impact on staff when they lose their long term jobs and still have a mortgage and all the normal bills to pay so although we all love a bargain, please remember the poor staff. My sister found that although a lot of customers who did buy closing down bargains were very sympathetic to the staff who were going to be left without wages there were others who were being so selfish and would ask when already reduced items would be reduced even further with not a bit of sympathy or understanding for the staff situation. It brought their morale down so low. I'm so aware of this now and would be very careful with what I said to staff in stores when they are closing down as a little bit of understanding and kind words goes a long way. Although they kept a certain amount of the stores open, I always wondered if they would eventually close them all down."For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."0

12 years ago it was £3.15 which was a pound lower than McD's... I'm disgusted it's still so low!!!My daughter works in the Hastings one and hope there's no sign of that one being closed, we've not heard anything. She didn't get on with college so we said she had to support herself, she did almost 50 hours last week at £3.68 an hour. Can't see them being in trouble as they were only taken over by JD sports recently, and their store is always busy....... fingers crossed.0 -

£3.68 an hour is ONLY for someone 17 years old or under ....
... that's the National Minimum Wage
It'll rise to £4.98 as soon as they turn 18

Just reading the comments on sleeping bags, you are meant to sleep in them in as little clothing as possible. Your body heat primarily warms up the sleeping bag, which is insulated to avoid the heat dissipating, and this keeps you warm. If you do not heat up the bag that way you will stay cold. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

I work for Millets and thought I'd just clear up a few things. Millets and Blacks are both owned by 'Blacks Outdoor Retail Limited'. Stores which are loss making and have been consistently loss making are being closed down- as you'd expect. Blacks Outdoor Retail Limited are owned by JDSportsFashion PLC. Being a very seasonal store there are always huge reductions on products, a sale does not mean a store is closing
if anyone has any questions I can try my best to help

I know, it's a shame but she chose to give up college and she was working there part time so just took more hours. I work nights in asda and she would earn the same as any other day colleague there, regardless of age. She wouldn't be allowed to work nights at 17 but would still almost double her hourly rate. She's happy where she is though so part of me agrees money isn't everything, she could move jobs and hate it. Still only 10 months until she turns 18 then she can go up to £4.99 !Smokefree since 27-9-20070 -

Thanks 1701C. Tell that to Millets! I went to sleep in my Millets four season sleeping bag ("comfortable" to -4C; acceptable to -20C) in a tshirt and boxers; it was about 1 or 2 degrees C outside. I woke up a few hours later absolutely freezing.
This is part of the response I got from Millets "Customer Service"
Whilst I fully sympathise with your situation, we were rather surprised to read that you chose not to sleep with any clothing in freezing temperatures with only a tent and sleeping bag to protect you from the elements. I would expect any person to have to layer up inside this sleeping bag or any other 4 season bag in zero degree temperatures.
Millets... Never again!Elite 5:2 #54 12/13 lbs (18 Jan) 1st Target :j0
