I think they may offer the £4500 back & my old car,
What are they retaining the £2000 for if you paid them £6500 by card?

I think £4500 was probably paid by card, with the part ex making up the further £2000

Oh right. But he reduced trade in to have a 2 year warranty. OP was the warranty a separate policy and if so what is happening with it as you are paying for a car they won't give you!

If OP paid £4500 + car and gets back £4500 + car then the warranty question is immaterial. Other than that though you raise a valid point. :)

If this contract has been SIGNED by both parties it is binding .
If payment has been made to the balance of the contract then it is complete and in force.
If this is the case, the refusal of the garage to hand over the property is an intention to permanently deprive of that property and is theft.
The OP should report the persons involved to the police for theft and ask the police to recover his property.
    Be happy...;)

    Where has OP gone?
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

OK, sorry for the disappearing act, not been able to get back on line. Right, things have moved on somewhat.
Honda continued to be !!!!!!, and phoned me telling me that they were cancelling the original contract and were refunding my money. They also stated that the renault was still my property but although it is on their premises I still have to make sure it is insured. The signed V5 completing the transfer to them is with the DVLA as we speak. They also told me I would have written confirmation of their position within 2 days. I am still waiting over two weeks later.

I received my money back, minus £200 that was my deposit (no explanation given) and no original car as it is legally transferred to them, so in effect I have lost £2000 on top of the unrefunded £200 deposit. I have had to go out and use the refunded money to buy something else.

Where the heck do I stand now?

i would be doing a letter before action giving 7 days to complete the legally binding contract and hope that pushes them into completing the original deal.
i would also probably put after taking legal advice that you want the original contract honoured wheither or not you do seek is your choice

Probably a bit late for that - OP has already bought another vehicle. I'd be after Marshalls Honda for the £2200 owing.
