Paying rent late on Standing order?

What happens when your rent date falls on a weekend?

My online banking page says it'l be processed the next day, but doesn't that then mean my rent would be late?

I dont really want calls to say my rent is unpaid nor to I want to manually do it every month.

Contract just says 'pay per calendar month on dates outlined'.

  • I've never had any problems with my letting agent if the payment goes through a couple of days late - I wouldn't worry too much :)

It will either get paid on the Friday (early) or Monday (late).

If Monday, by the time the landlord/agent discovers it is late (on Monday) it will be paid.

    Don't worry.

Ours was due on the 9th and sometimes came out on the 11th due to the weekend ....They know how Standing orders work so dont worry about it if they wanted it to be 'on time without fail' they would of asked you to set SO abit earlier
People don't know what they want until you show them.

Strictly speaking, it is the tenant's obligation for rent to be in the landlord's account on (or before) the rent due date. Some LLs/LAs are lenient, but some will make a fuss, particularly if the LL relies on the rent being there to meet his mortgage payments on the property.

Also, some banks will process the payment over the weekend, but it may not actually show as leaving your account until start of business on the Monday, so make sure funds are there just in case.

If you are concerned, set up your payments to leave your account 3-4 days before your rent due date, as I have never come across a landlord yet who would complain about rent arriving early!

to put my mind at ease I emailed explaining the two months it affects.

if I have to manually pay each month then oh well, you cant have it all!

I have this vision that landlords sit there as the clocks strike 12 ready to see who hasnt paid, or that agency's have red alert systems that send out text messages and fees for late payments if not done on said day.

I'm surprised at how many people are blase about being late with their rent. It doesn't create a great impression and may be something that gets mentined in a future reference. Not many landlords impose late fees but I know some letting agents do, so check your contract or LA's terms. Why don't you set your standing order at a date that means you won't be late?

Payments going late, well they for sure are a concern for a person like me. In order to have no problems with late payments one has to be financially stable.

If it had been agreed between the LL and OP that the rent would be paid by standing order then of course it's going to be late if the rent date falls on a weekend on bank hol. The rent will be there the next working day. That's how SO's work, it's nothing to do win one not being financially stale.

Why is that? You sign a contract to agree that rent will be in the LL/LA's bank account by a certain date each month, not necessarily on that date or to leave your account on a certain date. Therefore you set the SO to leave on a date that means it's never late.
