Garage didn't do the mot

Options
Took my car for it's mot today. It was booked in for 3pm, dropped it off at 12.30 went to collect at 5pm and they haven't done it. Have left it there for them to do tommorrow, do I have any rights or could I get some money off.

No they probably just didn't have time or merely forgot.
  • No you dont unfortunatly
  • I don't suppose you will, however, maybe find a more reliable garage for your next MOT?

Not a good idea to pee the people working on your car off!`
  • I personally think they should have offered a huge apology, and agreed to a free MOT or at least half price or something, really bad customer service IMO.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!
  • Been going there for years take husbands car and daughters car. The manager is away so will write a letter to say how disappointed I am with them.

did they give a reason, could be any number of factors like machine broken down, never jump the gun.

You could probably sue them for £3,000,000.

Are you serious? Why would you be entitled to money off?

Your rights are that you can take your car elsewhere for an MOT if you're not happy with their level of service.
  • If they gave no valid reason, I would have just jumped back in the car and drove off and found another MOT garage. Unless you had already paid in advance.

I use two absolutely fantastic local mechanics, usually choose which depending upon who sounds like they've got less on at the time. They are both very good and very competitive, but neither of them ever seem to have the job in hand done bang on time. I usually drop my car and then ring them before picking it up again, and always assume that it won't be ready at the time they've estimated. Yes, this could be very annoying, but they're busy and sometimes things (like a breakdown callout or similar) take precedence. If you've had a good relationship with this garage in the past, then don't be too aggressive - it probably wasn't deliberately not done.
