Interview advice?

I really do not know that anyone can be keen on going to see someone about a postion that they have no idea what it is. You might if you'd seen Falco's other posts about how bad his currrent job is.
When sending speculative letters and CV's you need to be clear about the job you are looking for and if contacted by the company be ready to ask questions.
Not knowing will actaully put you in a worse off position in my opinion and maybe the employer has a job in mind that you are not even going to be interested in.
Falco, you may have to play this by ear a bit, or maybe treat it as a fact finding exercise and 'interview' the employer about what they have to offer and if its right for you.0 -

OK so I went and had the interview with the MD, He said they were "thinking" about hiring someone handle stock full time as at the moment someone does it aswell as there own job and then my CV came in, He said he'd have to see if they can get funding for another worker, so don't know if that was a brush off or not.0

I've been sending out speculative CV's for a while and today received an email back from a company looking me to "call in for a chat" now how do I play this when no job has actually been advertised, there may not even be a job I guess, they are also near enough beside my current employer, so I am guessing they may even be friendly.
I would normally be a bit wary of a company sending out an email as their first form of contact. A letter or a phone call would normally be the preferred option, but they may be wanting to keep their costs down and save on advertising.
If you feel ok about this and have a good feeling then, go for it. It may turn out to be one of the best moves you've ever made with regards to job hunting.

I dont see it as a brush off, he just needs to go back and see if they can find the cash to employ you. Must have liked something on the CV to have contacted you.
Good luck with it0 -
The Job Centre is always keen to tell its clients that 50% of jobs are never advertised, so I don't see anything wrong in this set up at all. It's a very common way for people to get a job. If you want it and he comes back with the funding, then go for it. It could be the best thing you've done.0

Another phone call today from another company today looking me to go for an interview this week, thats more interviews in the past 2 weeks than I had in the past 12 months all by sending out speculative CV's. I am beginning to think its true that most companies aren't advertising, I guess they don't need to when there is people like me sending them CV's
Still never heard anything from the other job interview I went to last week which is a shame as I really liked the sound of the job. This one I am not so fond of but I'll attend the interview anyway.0 -

Was the first one you went to a real job or were they just 'looking' to see what or whom was out there. Lots of companies do that. Many years ago I wrote to a firm in London who at the time (and I never knew this) were outsourcing their accts dept. Anyway, they interviewed me as if there was a job and then after 2 interviews told me 'if they were looking for someone int eh future they'd get back to me'

I think they were just looking, they were a fairly new firm so were on one of them start up business schemes, they said they'd need to see if they could get funding for another employee. But it seemed like a nice place to work and the boss seemed a decent approachable guy.
I have my reservations about this firm that called today, mainly because the boss sounds just like my own boss just going by his tone and attitude. Out of the frying pan and into the fire springs to mind.0 -
