Interview advice?

I've been sending out speculative CV's for a while and today received an email back from a company looking me to "call in for a chat" now how do I play this when no job has actually been advertised, there may not even be a job I guess, they are also near enough beside my current employer, so I am guessing they may even be friendly.

No harm in going along to see what is offer. If you've no idea what the job might be research the company a bit so you know what they do so can tell them if asked what you might bring to them.

I'm sure you would anyway but make sure you are on time for the appointment and look smart.

I thought I would update this in the hope of getting more advice on how I should play this because as some of you know I've been trying to get out of my crappy jobs for months with no success and by the sounds of this the job will be mine if I play it right.

I phoned this guy back on Friday to arrange an interview, he told me they have been thinking about hiring an S.O (Whats an S.O?) for months but just never got around to it, he said my CV impressed him especially my administration skills, I have to go in on Tuesday where he will show me around apparently.

I'm not the most confident guy in the world, especially with having depression at the moment so don't want to balls this up. So how do I play it?

You could have said 'sorry what was that' and see if they then expanded on what an SO is?

What is the job for? Don't tell me, an SO?

Why go if you have no idea what an SO is?

Because he has saw from my CV something he likes, I can only assume its something to do with ordering stock, invoices etc as he chatted to me about that

    Possibly.

But as I say my confidence is a bit shot at the moment, do I come over as keen as possible or do I play it cool like yes I'd like the job but its no big deal if I don't get it?

You were keen enough on the company to send a CV so come across keen to work for them. As they haven't sent you a job description (or by the sounds of it written one) you are in a weak position to enthuse about the job itself.

I really do not know that anyone can be keen on going to see someone about a postion that they have no idea what it is.

When sending speculative letters and CV's you need to be clear about the job you are looking for and if contacted by the company be ready to ask questions.

Not knowing will actaully put you in a worse off position in my opinion and maybe the employer has a job in mind that you are not even going to be interested in.
