Where do I stand with phones4u

Bit of a long one this so please bear with me.

Went to phones4u to get a new contract phone. Wanted full internet access for £30 a month or less and not have to pay for the phone. This they did. Or at least so I thought. Gave me a contract with Vodafone and said I won't be charged for browsing web pages. I would only be charged if I downloaded things like music or videos. Wasn't sure so I went to Vodafone to check. The guy there said I would be charged for looking at anything other than Vodafone Live. Back to phones4u who made a call to Vodafone who said I would not be charged for looking at sites like Amazon. The guy then told me to go home, put the phone together and call Vodafone just to make sure I was happy with what had been said. Did this and Vodafone confirmed that I WOULD be charged. Phones4U have now said that if I go back on Tuesday they will cancell the contract with Vodafone and set me up with someone else (probably t-mobile, who I am currently with). What I was wondering is if I am within my rights to return the phone, cancel the contract and have nothing more to do with phones4U considering that I have opened and used the phone?

Any help?

Thanks

They probably have got u by the short and curlies as you can't cancel a contract where u have used the phone, you did not have to put the phone together to call Vodafone.

Stand your ground when u go back to phones4u, they are notorious for telling you anything to get you to sign a contract

    Thanks for that.

I was specifically told by the guy at phones4u to call using the new mobile. I think I'll be OK if they get me a decent contract with t-mobile.

I doubt Phones4U will willingly sell you a contract on t-mobile. They are really pushing Vodafone even if they're not the best deal; at least 60% of their contract sales must be Vodafone as agreed in a recent deal which saw the disappearance of Voda contracts from all other retailers. They will try their hardest to sell you a Vodafone contract even if it doesn't meet any of your needs

you have 14 days on voda from day of sale to return and completely cancel and walk away without any contract at all.. the phone must be in as new condition boxed e.t.c.

they will put you through to retentions over phone. tell them you have no faith in the company and do not want to hear any deals as you will take business else where.... that should shut them up and let them get on with returning it..

p.s. tmobile web and walk is probably the best deal around at the moment

Went back to phones4u and they were very nice to me. Gave me a contract with t-mobile unfortunately not with the phone that I wanted but I got a better one I didn't know existed. Told them I only wanted to spend £30 a month. They put me on a £42.50 contract but gave me £75 Cash back to take it down to £30 a montyh for 6 months. They said as long as my usage is low then t-mobile will contact me after 6 months and switch me to a lower tarrif (and Yes, I got that in writing). Now i'll just have to wait and see what happens after 6 months.
