my next car??

  • As it sounds more like a fun car you want, why not venture into older territory, without losing out on the performance?

    Something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-RS2-/150966023793?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item232646b671&_uhb=1

Practical, will pull your face off, but will also never lose money and will probably gain in value nicely over a few years. It'll never be worth mega money as the !!!!! types/ collectors want low mileage specimens, but I'd sooner be tooling around in one of those than the Focus or the A4.

Terrible advice, sorry, that car will be the biggest 'moneypit' EVER.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!
  • Each to their own. I dislike new stuff and prefer the older stuff with some character (but I also do my own work on my cars).

Most modern stuff will be landfill by the time they are 15 years old with nightmare electronic problems rendering them uneconomical to fix.

This would be landfill if the previous owner hadn't replaced almost every single component as it's 'special' - I'll bet that folder full of invoices would pretty much confirm my suspicions.

  • It's a specialist car, it's going to give you some bills, but that fat folder of bills probably eases the pain a bit for a prospective new owner.

The OP was on about sub 5k miles a year, so I'd still take a punt on it if that's all I was going to be doing.

I'd still wager that with those miles and not driving it at 10/10ths all the time it would pay for itself.

If you could stretch to £15k then a BMW Z3M Coupe would be my weapon of choice for a proper hero chariot and depreciation proof motoring. That would tear you a new ar5ehole
