in debt with eon

But if you are in arrears with Eon by more than about £200 (you don't state the amount), then they will block your switch to Sainsburys. You are presumably not in a position to clear the arrears before you switch? I don't think you've thought this through.
Yes it is more than £200 but they have left me switch today - just the electric thou not the gas :-)0 -
Assuming you have more than £200 arrears on the electricity account, it will still be blocked.
You have not 'switched today', you've applied for a switch, which BG have started to process. They have no idea what you owe Eon. A switch takes 4-5 weeks before you go on supply with the new provider. Once BG contact Eon to request to take over the supply, in the next 14 days or so, Eon will object and the switch will fail.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Thanks for your advice macman - but I have spoken with the E-on care team. They have advised I can change electric I cannot change gas, they are calling me back to tell me a plan for payback, they also feel electric should be changed to BG because I can apply for their scheme to repay my debt with E-on which BG have already said in principle as long as I have not lied and can prove what I said by bank statements, which I can. E-on have also said they will freeze my debt and I can just pay the min amount of my gas I am using now until I hear back from BG to see if I qualify for their scheme - its around 10 working days - so I need to confirm with E-on then but BG said they will pay them direct at which point E-on will then activate the switch
Maybe they have been nice to me because they can see they have given me a bad service?
I'm having someone come out to read my meter in the next week and to show me how to do it.
BG said I will get my first electric bill from them in around 4 weeks and I am paying monthly by DD they already have taken all my details and set that up on the phone today0 -
So I think what you are saying is that your debt is mainly on the gas (less than £200 on the electricity)? If so then yes, you can switch the latter.
Reading your gas meter does not really require an agent to visit: just google it. Only the older dial meters can be tricky for a first timer.
The very minimum time for a switch is 3 weeks, therefore you are unlikely to get a bill in 4 weeks, though they may take your first DD by then.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I owe around £390 on each - I thought it was strange they agreed to it. They have since called me back re gas and repayment and said that they suggest the best thing for me to do is go through the job centre for payment out of benefits. As what they require will be to high for me. I so wish I hadn't buries my head in the sand and sorted this sooner.0 -

It wont of switched, it takes 4 weeks also eon have time to object within 14 days of your cooling off periodDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

I have no idea where my gas meter is its outside of the property somewhere, the electric is in my house by the front door0 -

Follow the supply pipe back from a gas appliance to the meter, if it's outside it's probably in a meter cupboard atached to the wall.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
