    +1million for this.

I have seen Hell, and it's name was Crossharbour Asda on the Isle of Dogs.

Lol! Not been to that one but the Leyton one and Beckton one are pretty horrific. Last time I went to the Leyton one it was selling pitta breads two weeks out of date and covered in mould. I told a member of staff and they just shrugged. When I was due to have my youngest my OH suggested we go to the Old Kent Road one for baby stuff as surely it must be better? Wrong! The shelves looked like they hadn't been stacked in weeks as there were big empty spaces and what was there was a mess, there were broken and spilt products everywhere including on the floor that no-one was cleaning up, they only had size 3 nappies, the frozen section all the food was just shoved in together with no dividers and some of it looked like it had been defrosted and refrozen and I was able to get about 1/5th of the items on my list. I know that area is pretty, um, ghetto but many of the ASDA stores up in Manchester where I'm from are in worse areas and they are neat, well stocked and don't look like they've just been robbed. :rotfl: xx
  • The very busy ASDA in Norwich and the newer one in Lowestoft are both well cared for and have pleasant staff in my experience. Both have good range of fruit and veg and offers that make it worth travelling to - my nearest is 27 miles away as I live 'in the country'. Fuel is often 3p per litre cheaper than my nearer Tescos (9 miles away).

Interesting, there appears to be differences of opinion based on regions.

What is quite clear, however, is that Tesco is regarded as the worst of the lot and quite right too, a hideous store.

Although I don't understand how they have the biggest market share by far.

ASDA must be #1 for overall satisfaction, the prices & deals always seem far superior, even their fuel is always a few pence cheaper.

I just don't get Aldi & Lidl. I always feel grubby just setting foot in these places.

The Co-op worst here for prices followed by Sainsbury. Cheapest is Lidl Heron and Poundshop.
Tesco is worst, on it's own really a minefield of tricky promotions and massive increases all at once and yet some minor reductions if you look hard enough.

Tesco do seem to excel at shooting themselves in the foot.

An example. On my last visit, I found a load of nice pizzas on the bargain shelf. But there were no "yellow" price labels on any of them, though. There were Shelf Edge Labels (SEL) referring to pizzas, but for a completely different range.

So, no "offer to treat" under the Sale of Goods Act. And, if the SELs were intended to be for the pizzas on the shelf, multiple breaches of the Price Marking Order. The latter is actually a criminal offence.

I didn't make a fuss: even if you find someone in a suit, it's like trying to explain glacial erosion to a Bedouin tribesman.

I didn't buy one. I suspect that the reason why there were a lot of them on the shelf was because other potential customers didn't know how much they were.

    Haters gonna hate.

I personally like Tesco and consider it my favourite store. The only store I really don't like is Morrison's, especially the fruit and veg which I tend to find is low quality, mostly looking like it's ready to be thrown out.

I feel the exact opposite. We have a Tesco in the village which I use because it's handy but whenever I'm in town I always choose to shop at Morrisons. I love their salad bar and I wouldn't buy large, baking potatoes anywhere else. I always think their produce is really good quality and they have a good selection of the less common veggies too.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

I think Tescos are pretty bad because their food tends to be not very good quality and also its not very reasonable.
Waitrose is an utter rip off. Sainsburys also are overpriced in my opinion although they have a better choice and their fruit tends to be fresh.
Morrisons and Asda are reasonable but you have to keep an eye on Morrisons fruit and veg because it can go off quickly. Aldi is also quite reasonable but doesnt have everything.

Places like Heron foods and Iceland can have some good offers.I got 3 tubs of flora for £1.00 in total recently from Herons.

Having not set foot in a Tesco for months (and with no intention of doing so again) and having almost entirely ditched Sainsbury too, my vote would put Morrisons near the top of the 'bog standard' brigade (ie leaving out Ocado /Waitrose/Fortnums etc).

Morrison's meat is clearly superior and its prices better. It's a shame the stores are laid out so badly, but that's not much to put up with compared with Tesco's scams and Sainsbury's prices.

The Lidl and Aldi thing I just don't get. I suspect they are both fads. If I wanted copycat brands made by companies I've never heard of, I'd... well, actually I wouldn't do anything. They don't interest me. And as for the bizarre juxtapositions of plastic ping-pong sets, electric sanders, lavatory brushes , fingerless mittens and matching towel sets... it must just be a German thing.

I am an avid Al*i fan. I would not call their 'brands' copycat. In fact I think they are superior (without the price tag you get with 'brands'). Hardly a fad. I think the poll shows how more & more people are using them. Only get a few things in T*sco now.
    Back on the trains again!

I did some food shopping my nearest large Tesco yesterday. I'd recieved a voucher for no less than 85p off 450g packs of Tesco (not Everyday Value) pre-packaged cheese. I needed some more cheese.

I usually get ASDA English Extra Mature Cheddar at £2.78 for 500g or 2 for £5.00. The Tesco website showed Tesco British Extra Mature Cheddar at £3.30 for 450g and also 2 for £5.00. A few sums showed that, allowing for the difference in weight and with the voucher, 2 packs of the Tesco cheese were both cheaper and better value for money.

But then I think, "Do they allow both discounts?" I look at the small print on the back of the voucher and there's nothing about it not being valid in conjunction with other offers. I buy my 2 packs of cheese. The 85p voucher is accepted. I check the receipt and both the 85p voucher and £1.60 discount are shown.

    OK? Yes and no.

The problem is that, in view of Tesco's dubious reputation, I could think that there might be a problem and had to check that there probably wouldn't be one, then had to check that there actually hadn't been one. In customer service, customer perception and trust are paramount.

I mostly shop in Tesco as it's near to me and I don't have a car. I used to moan about it until I went to Asda recently, and the quality of everything I bought there was shocking - stale bread in the sandwiches, stale cakes and gave me the wrong pizza base (which also tasted stale).

Although I have issues with Tesco I can't fault the quality of their food (apart from their potatoes, which I've stopped buying as they turn to mush when cooked).

Occasionally go to Morrisons, which I like. M&S food is not as good as it used to be. Sainsburys OK, Co-op too pricy. Get some good bargains in Lidl, don't have an Aldi nearby so can't comment on that.
