A little. There's not a lot of difference in price between their Essentials range and other supermarkets' own brands though. Unlike ALL the other supermarkets though, their quality is consistently good.

I'd give Lidl and Sainsbury's runners up prizes.

I do find Waitrose a bit more expensive but it is such a lovely experience to shop there that I still pop in once a week for a few special bits (i've also had some great finds in the homeware section - set of 3 Emma Bridgewater union jack cake tins for £7.50!) as it is so nice to shop in a quiet, clean well laid out shop.

I've only tried a few Essentials items, and they were truly dire.

Many years ago I was a Rep for nestle and used to visit to sell to the 'multiples'. This has stayed with me and I drive my wife mad because I love to look around supermarkets and see what their prices are. Last week Tesco's Easter eggs were the best bargain and boxes of 72 weetabix for price of 48. Also pepsi was down to £1 again. I don't go there to be entertained and different stores with different employees give different experiences. If I want to stock up on meat, I prefer Morrison's. All the stores have pros and cons, but I just know what the prices are for what I want and visit looking for sale items whenever I'm near one.
In Sainsbury's I saw a woman buying a jar of Options hot choc. for £3.19 and I wanted to tell her that if she went to Tesco's it was down to £1.59. At Asda's a few weeks ago I saw people buying Clover on special at 2 for £3, but I wanted to say that elsewhere they were rediced down to £1 each.
I think if money were no object I would like to shop at M&S!
As an afterthought, I do know that some marketing tricks are applied and not just at Tesco's. 'Reduced' shelf labels are often put with the same product but a non-reduced different size for instance.

That's true and It's fine for people like me who have a choice of almost all the supermarkets and the time for shopping around. What they're up to is trying to capture those who want/need to get everything in one shop.

Ironically, Tesco is probably the furthest away from me so I rarely go there. I am convinced they're running scared as they've been putting full page ads in newspapers to tell us all how much they're changing!

I tend to shop at Aldi with top-ups at Sainsbury's but that's because that uses the least fuel!;)

P.S. For poster who works at Sainsbury's, when is their spring range of clothes and home stuff coming in? I saw it advertised in a magazine as 21st Feb but no sign of it yet. There was a picture of a white tee that looked a good shape and had no slogans, or sequins, silly pictures......

    Haters gonna hate.

I personally like Tesco and consider it my favourite store. The only store I really don't like is Morrison's, especially the fruit and veg which I tend to find is low quality, mostly looking like it's ready to be thrown out.

Around here, 'real life' stores would be

    1.Waitrose
2.Sainsburys (though our nearest one stocks hardly anything, but bizarrely has a better frozen range than the huge store a few miles away. No tannoy system in our local store)
    3. Morrisons (though this is out of the way)
    4. Tesco
    5. ASDA (all the London Asdas are pretty ghastly compared to the ones up north)
6.Lidl/Aldi/Iceland-none local enough and the nearest ones are poorly stocked and generally rubbish)

    Online shopping in this area

    1. Sainsburys (aside from one incident they are top notch, never had a single broken/damaged/missing item, drivers have no problem finding us and they rarely need to substitute anything)
    2. Asda (stores are useless but they get the online shopping delivered from a warehouse)
    3. Waitrose (ok and free delivery over £50 but now delivered from a warehouse out in the sticks drivers therefore have no local knowledge and they always have a few missing items that they don't even try and sub despite requesting them to do so)
4.Ocado (were great but seemed to rapidly go downhill about 18 months ago in this area. Delivered one shop at nearly 3am-yes am! Unsuitable substitutions, broken and damaged items in every shop. Missing items and being given other shoppers stuff. I rarely see their vans around here anymore which suggests to me I'm not the only one ticked off with them)
    5. Tesco (hours late deliveries, rude drivers and smashed glass jars etc.)

    Xx

    +1million for this.

I have seen Hell, and it's name was Crossharbour Asda on the Isle of Dogs.
