Hardupandfedup...when you say the company can just cancel the policy if you don't pay, that's not strictly true. If they do the finance inhouse as a straight nocredit instalment agreement, then yes, they can cancel your policy under the terms of the agreement. If however, they use a third party to finance the credit, then your nonpayment would be a matter for the finance company and not the insurer. Your insurance would remain intact and the finance company would have the civil claim against you. So, it's the 3rd party finance companies who say no instalments...not the insurer.

However, once the finance company tells the insurer that the payments have failed, the insurer will cancel the polic regardless, AND inform Insurance Hunter that the policy was terminated adversely - this means it has to be disclosed if you plan to take out another policy later. If you don't it becomes a disclosure failure.

The finance company will still chase you for the full amount owing regardless and will mark any delay or default on your credit file.

Because you have become one of the underclass, you have upset the financial institutions and they are going to repay you by making it as difficult as they can.

Could I just ask is it best to do it on line or ring up? I have got a quote on line from co op and it has the option of paying monthly but would it be ok to go ahead on line? Just worried it will stop me paying monthly.
