Orange "Care" mobile insurance to rise £6.00 to £7.99 pm

Got a letter from Orange/EE today confirming the subject line.

Starts 29th March and is because "the cost of todays phones and associated claims costs have gone up" and "as per your t's & c's called 'can your agreement change' we can".

There's a useless £5 voucher in the letter towards a purchase from the Orange shop, where things are 3 times the price of anywhere else.

ALL BEWARE !!!!

Their website (unsurprisingly) hasn't been updated....

  • Yup- back door way to screw you if you want to keep Orange Care rather than risk outside insurers and have two companies to deal with if you are on a monthly contract. I consider it a 'material' condition of sale if taken out as aprt of the package of your monthly contact. It is a rise way above inflation and although you can cancel the Orange Care I feel you should be able to cancel the lot, or have the Orange care subject to the same T&C as the rest.

There's another thread on the latest price hikes from Orange but I can't post a link to it apparently...........

However, you might have chosen to take out a contract with Orange because Orange Care is available only in conjunction with an Orange contract. You might have chosen, for example, to pay slightly more for the Orange service contract than with a rival operator, all because of the price of Orange Care. If one of the benefits of having an Orange contract is removed (i.e. Orange Care at the existing price), then you could claim it is a material change.

Orange care is good though. straight swaps on the handsets
however its not as good as it was. The old days where it was included in the tariff with no excess
I personally dont bother these days

No, it doesn't give you the right to cancel the main contract. If the primary reason that you bought the main contract was for the benefit of the cheap insurance add-on, then it is a material change in the main contract, as the benefit is removed.
