or until they get a majority stake in Vueling and some Gatwick flights become Vueling branded.

It's called flybe. But otherwise you're probably right, this is already happening with Lufthansa sending most of its short haul to Germanwings.

Flybe would be the logical brand to use for a low-cost airline from a British perspective, but they have a much bigger stake in Vueling than in Flybe so I don't really think you can state it will be Flybe.

It depends what strategy they take I guess. Whether BA and Iberia each get their own low-cost offshoots or whether there is just one between them.

My suspicious mind can't help thinking that this might be a BA trial before adapting what has now become widespread in the USA with most of the big airlines charging passengers to check-in luggage. I think only JetBlue and Southwest allow a 1st bag to be checked in without a charge. Check-in a bag with America, Delta, US Airways, United and alike and expect to pay USD 25-35.

For domestic flights yes. You don't pay to check in a bag with American on an international flight. Although I guess you could say its similar as domestic flights in the US could easily be a similar distance to flying within Europe.

The problem it causes is when you get on a domestic flight everyone is trying to cram small suitcases into the over head lockers. Then if there's no room for them all they let you bring your bag to the front to be checked for free anyway but just wastes time! One flight I was on they were telling people to hurry up or the flight could be delayed. So I really hope BA won't go down this road.
