British Airways has launched a new “hand baggage only” fare, initially being offered on five short-haul routes from Gatwick airport.
The fare is available for purchase from today for travel from February 26, on flights to Amsterdam, Dubrovnik, Jersey, Tunis and Turin.
Fares will start from £39 one-way to Amsterdam and Turin, £45 to Jersey, £49 to Dubrovnik and £69 to Tunis. BA says that the discount compared to fares including checked luggage varies between £9 and £15 depending on the route.

Funny how words can be spun, BA to charge LESS for hand luggage only passengers, rather than Ryanair/Easyjet etc. charge EXTRA for hold luggage. I know it's the same thing but one sounds far more positive than the other.0

They were doing Tunis for 70 last year with 23 kg luggage included0

My suspicious mind can't help thinking that this might be a BA trial before adapting what has now become widespread in the USA with most of the big airlines charging passengers to check-in luggage. I think only JetBlue and Southwest allow a 1st bag to be checked in without a charge. Check-in a bag with America, Delta, US Airways, United and alike and expect to pay USD 25-35.0

Not only is this simply a thinly disguised admission that they are going to start charging for check-in bags, but those travellers with "hand-luggage" only cause huge amounts of inconvenience to the rest of us with reasonable sized carry-on bags.
Those *huge* carry-on bags that barely fit in the overhead lockers are only going to become a more and more common sight as people attempt to fit their entire luggage into the largest carry-on bag they think they can get away with! :mad:0 -

Wizzair are now even charging for 'large' hand baggage (anything over 42 x 32 x 25cm)...0 -
It's just a trial for some Gatwick flights, that's all.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

or until they get a majority stake in Vueling and some Gatwick flights become Vueling branded.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I had to have a laugh on one flight where they were insisting the carry-on bags fit through the frame to test their size; one bloke was having a right old moan at them. Not only is this simply a thinly disguised admission that they are going to start charging for check-in bags, but those travellers with "hand-luggage" only cause huge amounts of inconvenience to the rest of us with reasonable sized carry-on bags.
