Hello MSE Forum!
Hoping you can help -- we are soon having an air to water heat pump installed, and I am looking to get the best type of electricity tarriff. Currently quite low users, paying £35/month DD, but obviously our usage will jump up with heat pump running.
Currently on a Scottish Power Online deal, but wondering if a tarriff such as Co-ops would be better -- a daily standing charge but then one low unit rate for electricity consumed.
Any advice from anyone who's done the same would be appreciated!
Thanks.

SC or NSC is a red herring, unless you are a very low user then the annual bill either way will be within a few pence of each other.
Just use a comp site and work out what the heat pump will add to your annual kWh consumption. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I don't think the Co-op would be very good. uSwitch say that after their recently announced price rises, they will be languishing down the bottom of most comparison site searches.0 -

The best option would be possibly an economy 7 tariff, with a large thermal store, as this would allow you much of the year for all but the coldest periods to run the heatpump only on cheap rate electricity.
However, this may be tricky to do in an economic manner - the required heatstore is very large, and the installer may be unfamiliar.
Any measures you can take now to improve the heat retention of your property - sealing off draughts, cavity insulation if appropriate, ... may greatly reduce consumption.0
