How to look a complete bell end

  • The old Volvos simply used a 5/21W stop light bulb in the front sidelights, 21W obviously for when the headlights weren't on.
Simple and effective, as was DimDip.

The modern fairy lights particularly Audi and range Rover are bit camp and others like Kia/PSA desperate to copy, but each to their own.

Fortunately Audi/VW seem to have taken on board that their rear indicators need to be seen if the driver can be bothered using them, unfortunately they haven't turned down the blinding stop lights, just increased the indicator intensity.
Since when has blinding the driver behind helped avoid being rear ended?

Front fogs do have a use and i'm glad if they are fitted to a vehicle i'm driving, in the event a headlight bulb blows switching the front fogs on does at least highlight both sides of the vehicle adequatly until one has time to dismantle the vehicle to fit a new bulb.

People used to whinge about "Volvos with their bloody lights on" too.

BTW we have an orange Sportage. It wasn't me though. :p

you're one of few people who seem arsed to change a faulty bulb though. some people in my estate have had nackered bulbs for months now...

Most times i get blown headlights are early mornings on one of the lorries i drive, luckily they all have good fog lights just underneath each headlamp unit.
So i flick the fog lights on and carry on safely until daylight then sort the thing out, hells own job trying to faff around changing headlight bulbs in the dark via torchlight....fortunately always easier to fit than many cars people saddle themselves with these days.

What annoys me most is when i can see a motorcycle approaching on a single carriageway B road, which turns out to be Transit van with not a glimmer of side light even showing on the OSF, Darwinism in action.

Well blame Europe, As of 7th February 2011 all new cars produced must have DRLs fitted by law, so might as well get used to them.

Its a pity really, it used to be a way of spotting a kn@b driver approaching as mostly only Audi had them so you could keep an eye on it for the usual erratic behaviour. :p

The law does not say they should be the bright LED type that look like they've been bought from Halfords boy racer department.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Bonus points when this is combined with the bizarre trend of having the indicators mounted on the inside edge of the headlights rather than the outside edge.

That approaching motorbike that is signalling left actually turned out to be a black Peugeot 206 signalling right... at a junction where right-turners in both directions both have to wait in the same bit of road.

Oh they're brilliant what a good design , you could drag the driver by his ear round to the front of his car and point this out and he'd most likely not have a clue what you were talking about...trouble is they drive off into the distance whilst leaving a trail of confusion and annoyance and sometimes damage in their wake.

    Interesting

My car has a build date of 26th June 2011 but isn't fitted with DRLs. I don't want them either!

It only applies to cars designed after then, if your car was designed before 2011 but manufactured after, there is no requirement for them.
