AMEX Supplementary Card

I have an Amex Gold and want to get a supplementary card for my brother. He is overseas at the moment but will be moving back here in a couple of months. I'm trying to get it sorted before he's moving here I'm wondering whether Amex requires proof of ID/ proof of address for supplementary card holders? Or will they just send you the additional card after you fill out the request form online?

They will do anti money laundering checks and need proof of ID sent in if they can't do this electronically.

They'll need to sign the application and you need to provide their name and date of birth but I've never been asked for any ID for supplementary card holders (I added two to my gold card a couple of weeks ago)
  • I was told that they would ask for proof of ID if they are unable to confirm their details electronically but they never did and just sent the card. (as the person has never visited the UK let alone lived here there is no way they would have been able to validate it electronically)

added two family members as supplementary card holders to my platinum cashback card. all done online and the cards were posted to my address. Was no need for anything to be signed by them.

Chargecards require a signature because the additional cardholders are held equally liable for the debt unlike the credit cards where only the primary cardholder is liable

Thank you so much guys. I think I will wait until my brother arrives here before getting the card for him. I suppose in theory I can just sign the application for him but that will be fraud. So I think it is better to wait.

    can you help?

i am looking to add another card holder to my account. i already have one additional account holder so when i go online and ask for another what would i do?

it asks me for my details and then additional cardholder/s required, but as i already have one do i simply add the new (3rd cardholder) as the 1st additional cardholder on the online application....i hope that makes sense!

does the supplementary card go to the additional cardholders address or to the account holder to pass on?

    thank you.

a little bump to my post above and....

i have just applied for an additional cardholder (2nd additional in total) and got a "we cant make a decision right now, we'll drop you a note within 10 days to let you know" message.

now i seem to remember that being the same message as when i 1st applied. is that a standard message or have some of you had an "accepted" message for an additional on application?

    thank you.
