Help with furniture for first home.

Hey guys, no I don't think you're being harsh. Personally I would be happy with a chair a kettle and a book. Ha-ha.
The reason I'm trying to sort out basic furniture is for my better half. Lord knows she deserves it. Ha-ha.
I've searched a bit wider on free cycle and we might have the possibility of a bed and a cooker. Moving in tomorrow so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
Also a local business has cord carpet for less than a pound a square meter so at least that's something to go on the floor. More comfortable to sleep on for the first night than tiles. Ha-ha.
Cheers - James
That's great, and though you might only be able to afford cord carpet today, perhaps next year it'll be high quality plush Axminster!
My son and DIL moved here from the USA some years ago, and acquired everything from charity shops/freecycle etc, and we bought their new bedding, cutlery and basic crockery.
When they left, they sold the stuff for nearly as much as it cost. If you go on ebay, and put in your postcode, you'll find lots of stuff "collect only", and you can get some great bargains.
Good luck in your new home and for the future.:)

I would suggest you only apply for a community care grant and wait to see if you receive it. If it is granted DO NOT also apply for a budgeting loan straight away - keep that for further down the line and for an emergency.
If you can't scrimp and budget and wangle on a thousand pounds there is no point claiming the extra four hundred and fifty straight off as it will just be frittered and wasted.0 -
Local churches sometimes help too; with furniture or vans to collect freebies you can get on freegle. Just ask for furniture on your local Freegle group and people will help you out, for free. Some might even offer to deliver things to you.
Don't get a loan when there is so much free stuff about. Loans have to be paid back.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Ask on Freegle for carpet or rugs. Save your money for food and bills.
You can always buy a carpet later on when you get a job. Then you can stick your older carpet back on Freegle, to help others.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

In addition to freegle and freecycle, check the Furniture Recycling Network; they run schemes that take unwanted furniture and repair it. Particuarly good with electrical stuff as it is all PAT tested.
You can get a referal from a social worker or the Council.
Given your circumstances the last thing I would suggest is looking in Argos.
I would suggest a new mattress if you can afford it but everything else can be acquired second hand.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
