    sounds like a sensible plumber

Dont know whether its worth changing it now to a new one, will it really save me much money on oil bills?
  • it's not the oil bills you need to worry about it's the boiler repair costs if it's knackered, you could pay £80 then the money to get it fitted only to find out it doesn't work & will cost too much to repair then have to buy a new boiler & get that fitted
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

    Hi

My oil boiler is like 20 + years old and I want to replace it for something that would run more efficiently

Have seen on gumtree a boiler for sale in my area, its a worchester bosch 50/70 boiler complete with burner, he says its 5 years old, hes selling it for £80, is it worth doing?

He said running fine but just selling as hes changing to gas

    Thanks for any advice
Is it still installed and working or has he already replaced it.

If it is still installed, ask to see it working.

Otherwise it is probably best avoided as some have advised above.

If it is still installed, then do you or him pay for the cost of uninstalling it-and transporting it?
You'll probably have to replace the flue as well.

    Yes its plastic

Plastic tanks are worth a lot of money. You'll get a buyer for that - no problem.
  • Ignoring the second hand one, its weighing up the expected lifetime cost of a new boiler. Yes you will save fuel compared to a 20 year old one almost certainly BUT chances are the new one simply won't last as long on average.
Payback period is pretty long on some boilers and i am sure someone will pop along shortly with said figures!
