My attitude to patches is 'put them on when you need to and leave them there until you think you need another one'

Maybe that's why they didn't work for me....

Ah well you see TNG I know they are a nicotine replacement but also psychologically it helps when you know you can't smoke when you have one on! So therfore the patch for me is a deterrent. I know some people do but it is dangerous to do so.

I am also fighting with myself this week - my sisters and hubbies have gone abroad for a week and have asked whether I would like them to get me tobacco!! I said I wasn't sure so they said well you have a week to think about it ... I am supposed to let them know before they return Sunday, well they fly back on Sunday! Argh! Do I don't I???

    Cheaper than smoking!

Although I know your retort is going to be, but I don't smoke £15 a week's worth!! :rotfl:
Seeing as the fags are already bought I see them as costing nothing. (And wasting away now)

I know what you mean Ads, but I think there comes a point when you really feel that you can't carry on smoking ... I can't really explain it, and every time you light up it really doesn't do it for you.
As it is now, as I roll my own it is cheaper to smoke than get patches but it really isn't the point for me anymore. That is why I think I have been buying patches and building the stock up ready!! I have 5 weeks worth now of step 1 out of 6 weeks, I might be mad but as long as I have them it's more and more on my mind to do something! Does anybody know what I'm trying to say ... because I don't :rotfl:
  • I quit just over a week ago and I have to say (I've heard this from other ex-smokers as well) that you can attempt to quit many times and it won't work but then one time you do it (the last time obviously) something just clicks and it isn't as hard anymore.
I was out over the weekend, drinking (even got a bit drunk) and was around people smoking all night and I didn't touch one. Very proud of myself
Was debt free... then went travelling!

Rollies are cheaper, but I'd end up making a mess, so I've never used them.

You might find a quit when you think, this time, I'll succeed.

Sorry for this misspell Adz ... do you forgive me? I have a machine to roll up otherwise I would make a hell of a mess!!

lazy&indebt, welcome I haven't seen you here before. Welldone you;) how did you do it ... was it just will power or patches or other?
  • righto guys... i'm sitting here smoking myself into oblivion and it's gotta STOP!!!!

I want in if that's okay?

I'm going to go cold turkey. I've gotta do it!!!! I'm SICK of smoking.

I hope that you guys will be here if I need you!!!

Instead of feeling nervous, I'm feeling happy... I REALLY want to do this!

As an incentive, I have decided to put three pounds per day into a 'Little Pickle Pot' and spend the money on new clothes.
Not very MSE, I know, but I've been saving really hard lately and need something to keep me going..... I think this might help!

I'll pop back in tomorrow after I've had time to read the whole post and catch up to where you all are and let you all know how I'm doing!!!

I'll go to sleep VERY happy tonight knowing that I will wakr up tomorrow a NON-SMOKER!!! :T

    big love,

Look at that!!!!! I wrote that on 16.08.2007!!!!
I lasted about a week, then started again, then cut down from 25ish per day to 10 per day and that's where I am now...

I have... hang on *checks packet* ...2 ciggies left.

    After that - I QUIT!!!!!!
I used to buy a packet of 20 everyday, but now it's a packet of 10 (it feels strange to buy big packets now). That's £2.90 per day or £23.00 per week (I smoke slightly more at weekends).
Thats nearly £100.00 PER MONTH!!!!

Wish me luck - I've got my Alan Carr book... but he says to carry on smoking throughout the book... I want to quit now... what wprked best for those of you who have used the book?
