Three - Ultimate Internet SIM & Tethering
Options
From the Three website:
SIM plans with All-you-can-eat data do not allow tethering (except for the One Plan). If you would like to tether, you will need to choose a Pay Monthly plan and / or an Add-On that does allow tethering.
My question... how does Three (or any other SP) enable/disable tethering on a SIM?

Folk can argue the technicalities, some handsets simply share the 3g link, but the networks could tell form usage patterns eg surfing on a laptop may be more data hungry than from the handset. Some networks are fussy about tethering others less so, some fruity based devices tether differently and so may not be so inconspicuous to tether.0

In my experience three don't care how much you use, and whether you tether or not.
Although they do block the sims being used in their mifi devices.
I tether daily, use up to 150gb a month, use it as my main Internet connection and nothing has been said by three, and the sim never blocked.
Usage so far this month... With just over a week to go... Ooopssss0 -
i think it depends on your phone. Most Android phones will still work even tho the provider says no tethering. Also you can get apps which bypass the no tethering policy.
With iPhone, if the provider says no tethering, the portable hotspot function will not work.
However, as with most things, jail breaking, and getting the right app from Cydia will get around that.
To be fair, and this is why i have never understood a no tethering policy, data is data, it doesnt matter if you are browsing on the phone or a computer connected to the device. As long as they monitor your total for the moth and charge you accordingly, i cant see what the benefit is from stopping tethering.. other than to annoy us all!0 -
I have this price plan and have usage similar to im-lost using my sony ericsson experia ray to my mac.
Then this morning out of nowhere when i click on a link it sends me to
three.co.uk/tetheringblock and the web page doesn't open.
Then apps on my phone cant download data until i restart my phone.
I spoke to three and they say i need to buy £5 blot on if i want to tether! Only the one plan now has tethering enabled. I have just downloaded a tethering app from google play and i getting round it so far.0 -
With iPhone provider can spy on users as iPhone uses different APN for tethering and there is no easy way to change it.
But...
Just jailbreak your iPhone and install small piece of software called TetherMe, which basically uses main internet APN for tethering too. Makes almost impossible to notice from provider point of view (obviously some advanced usage patterns analysis can give the answer but.. just stay low and nobody will notice).0 -
Best way to get tethered on any network is a BlackBerry mobile and Playbook, you tether via bluetooth and the network does not see the Playbook tablet. You do not need BB add on unless you want BB email&messenger.
£200 outright & no contract, Ovivo is great for low users, 3 payg is good for 300 minutes, 3000 texts and Unlimited dataSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
If you have a phone you can activate as a hot spot and you are on one of the Ultimate, All You Can Eat Data Plans, on Three, you will be able to Tether, but only to another Smart Phone or a Tablet (Kindle, etc). For a laptop or desktop computer, you will need to add Tethering to you plan, or to be on the One Plane. I have had both, the £13pm Ultimate plan and the One plan, so i have first hand experience on this issue. So if you only need to Tether to a tablet, the cheapest plan will do, for a Laptop, you are going to need the One Plan.0
