Capital one. Accidental positive balance

I paid this months credit card balance in full on the 15th. Capital one have taken the same amount by direct debit out of my account today.
This has created a positive balance of £400 and left me overdrawn in my bank account

I know I could have just waited for the direct debit but I was keen to tidy this months money up hense the payment on the 15th. Normally when I do this the direct debit amount just drops to zero

Rung capital one this morning but the account had not yet updated at their end

Any one any experience of this???

Just ask them to reverse the DD.
Or refund the money back to the source acc.

Yes you were just too late to cancel direct debit. All you haver to do is call your bank just now tell them you have paid the card off yourself and ask for an indemnity claim. The bak will do this no problem your funds will be all back in your account by 5/6 pm tonight. You will not incurr any charges either. :)

An "indemnity claim" is how the bank will claim their money back from the originator (Capital One) after they refund the customer under the direct debit guarantee.

However, there is no basis here for a claim under the direct debit guarantee, being as both the amount and date were pre-notified correctly by Capital One.

Best approach is to ask Capital One for a refund (either cheque or bank transfer).

Not had this with Capital One, but happened with MBNA.

My £40 was to be collected by direct debit. I always pay a bit extra so that it is not recorded as 'minimum payment' by CRAs. But I noticed the figure updated to be collected by direct debit had gone down. Paid another tenner and they said they would collect £20 by dd. Paid in £50 to therefore cover the monthly cost plus a tenner and it cofirmed that £0 would be collected. This was two weeks before the payment was due.

They still took the original amount by dd though, against what my online account indicated.

Yet my Barclaycard account, which collects full payment direct debit, does take into account payments I make up to 2 days before the payment due date.

    Very poor from MBNA

Then you have a basis for a DD indemnity claim and I hope you used it

MBNA \ Virgin Statements always state that a mimimum pmt DD will always take the minimum installment regardless of any other payments or transactions made in the meantime. disregard what any interin online screen says and go with the printed statement..

    It's the direct debit guarantee.
