Moving a mob number between accounts?

I have a question I would really like answered. My phone is currently due an upgrade and I would really like to get the iphone 5 on O2. I have found a deal through the carphonewarehouse that will give me the phone for £25 with a £36 contract which I’m happy with. The only problem is that my current contract is in my mums name and I now want to change this to my name. I know I could just cancel the old contract and open up a new one but I really want to keep the same number.

Someone told me at the carphonewarehouse that it is possible to get a PAC code from o2 and swap it over that way but I thought that was just for swapping the number between providers? Does anyone know if it is possible? Thanks.

You do it in two steps via another network PAYG sim.

Unlike other networks, O2 do internal transfers, but I am not sure that they will do this if the contracts are on different names.

Alternatively, both you and your mother can transfer the existing contract to your name (subject to you passing the credit check).

That said, I see iPhone 5 on O2 available for £0+24*£36 with Unltd+Unltd+1Gb or on T-mobile for £30+24x£31 with 600 minutes.

Even better deals are available with 500Mb and smaller number of minutes.

As the contract is in your Mothers name, you would be unable to upgrade, request a PAC code or cancel the contract.

Your Mother would be able to upgrade the O2 contract direct with Carphone and then ask O2 to do a change of contract ownership to your name which would be subject to meeting the credit check criteria.

You may be able to do the change of ownership to your name before upgrading direct with Carphone but O2 may have a rule where you are only able to upgrade after the first three clear payments. This will be something your Mother would need to discuss with O2.

Yep, this is the deal I'm looking at. I like to use my data so I need at least 1GB.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to think about what to do. It might just be easier for me to get a new number! Do you have to give 1 months notice before the contract is offically cancelled and no more payments go out? I don't want to end up paying two contracts.

If you are going to start a new contract, it will be subject to a credit check in your name.

Your Mother will need to cancel the present contract, its in her name. Contracts are subject to 30 days notice.
