I hope it's better than Siemen's room thermostats. I have one like this and it only comes on 1c below your set temperature and heats the room up 1c above the set temperature before turning off.

wow that's a bit harsh

1c is a small margin, depending where your stat is and the size of the room, insulation of the room, rate of heat loss etc being out just 1c is good.

A very long overdue update. I only just got round to ordering the RWB29 for £39 from an eBay supplier. Arrived 2 days later and after unscrewing 2 screws I popped off the old timer and simply popped the new one into place.

    Total time spent: 2 minutes.

No wiring required. Just changed the dip sticks to configure it for 5/2 day operation.

Should have done this 5 years ago! Sitting back sipping a cold beer feeling good with myself.

wish I has seen this thread 5 years ago, just moved from a rented place, which had a broken timer, I would have swapped it myself if I knew how easy it was.

It certainly isn't harsh, especially as reviews on Amazon suggest that I'm not the only person with these feelings.

you could get 3-4 or more different temp readings if taken in different areas of the room,, 1c is good, maybe the stat is bad and has faults but being 1c out is not one of them.

    1c is nothing.
  • I have a similar problem to the original poster of this thread.

I have a Danfoss 4033 (actually the original Randal version!) and after many years it now seems to be playing up. The problem is that the rotor seems to have a mind of its own as to whether it will rotate - e.g. this morning it switched on at its set time of 8am. This evening, thinking that it seemed to be a bit chilly, I went to the programmer (which is situated in the airing cupboard) and noticed that it was stopped at 1pm! I turned it manually past the evening switch on setting and the water and heating came on normally. (The temperature is governed by a separate Honeywell room thermometer in one of the bedrooms). I therefore think that it is time to replace it.

I know that I can replace it with another mechanical 4033 but am wondering whether I could update to a digital programmer such as the Siemens RWB29 which is much cheaper?
  • Hi guys, I have a Switchmaster 400 controller, and I would like to replace it with a modern digital one, but dont want to worry about rewiring etc, is there a direct replacement that I can buy? Many thanks in advance! Happy Christmas to you all!

P.S. I would lao like to change the Romm Thermostat, which is also a Switchmaster, a direct replacement for that would also be required...

I find that really annoying! 20c with cold radiators is so different to 22c with hot radiators. And the specifications don't tell you about this, my stat measures in half degrees but still switches at whole degrees. If I set it to 21c I'd like it to come on at 20.5c & off at 21c.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • I did the same thing a few years ago when mine packed up, undid 1 screw popped on new unit put screw back in. Easy.
Nothing to see here, move along.

    Hi there

I'm hoping it's OK to sneak into this thread... My pops has this timer currently but it's no good as it only has two on/off settings and he wants to replace with a digital one with more settings, is this possible? Would it be a DIY job do you think?
I'm pretty savvy and handy with a screwdriver and can follow instructions and would rather get it done rather than him stressing he has to get someone in to do it and charge crazy money.
The sooner it's done the more harmonious life will be here lol

    Thanks for any advice.

Oh I can't post a link, so unsure what to do now :(
