Try this instead.
Just ran who crashed, followed the link that came up in results to Microsoft site:

I don't know what to do now?0 -
There is a last resort of sorts. Backup your data, wipe the hard drive and install Windows again (or Linux
).
Failing that, try removing the drivers, maybe even drivers for other devices and add the modem driver FIRST. See if it works then. If it does, it may well be another device driver causing the issue or it could be a conflict between that and another driver.
Personally, although it's a bit of hassle, I'd plump for a format and clean OS install and take it from there...0 -

nope, says it's a driver prob but it can't specify which one *sigh*0

I had the same modem from Tiscali which kept disconnecting.
I eventually got in touch with them, let them run through their script and they sent me a new box (modem, cable, ADSL splitter and CD).
Didn't have any problems after that - it may have been a dodgy CD they've sent you. I'd request a new one depending on how long you've had it.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -

A pool, is just that - a pool of available memory allocation .
When your WinXP was first put on all the different bits were allocated a memory address and [ IRQ / DMA, this created a HIVE and a HAL ] the puter knew where it had to go to get what.
When you dis then re-connect the modem it finds a new allocation and either works [ memory area is free ] or does not work [ memory area is already allocated ] depending on which bit of memory the puter gives it.
- - - at this point I'd create a restore point called scoobs1, then switch restore off completely !
That's your problem, the solution however is unclear - I'd start by disabling the ' Cache Bios & and Cache Video ' settings on the MOBO BIOS and see where that leads
then if that's not fruitful -
I'd right click on the modem in your modem in the Control Panel / Hardware / Devices and ( hit the DEL key ) delete the modem [ ignore the warnings ] and force the O/S to re-allocate the drivers which it will find after you shut down [ not reboot ] and then re-start your puter.
then if that's not fruitful -
You have two choices (1) reinstall from scratch your WinXP
then if that's not fruitful -
(2) Contact your ISP and tell them to send you a brand new fit for purpose set of kit.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
