I have been looking at insurance for Bully tonight and the prices are higher than I thought. I know you can't put a price on the health of a pet but £50+ a month is a lot. I always worry that there are so many clauses and conditions that if it came to claiming the company I have insurance with could find a way out.

I have spoken to my mum and she suggested I do what she does for her 2 dogs. Every month she puts a certain amount into a flexible ISA which generates interest and also means she has money put aside should she need it.

Personally I think I am going to do this :)

Wilykit - that may be fine for some people if they have access to credit/cash in case of emergency/serious ilness

Zara's vet care costed over 14k within one year, insurance paid all, no way I could come up with this kind of money :(

She had one operation at the end of one "insurance year" which runs oct to oct and then second operation at the beginning of the next "insurance year" but both within the same "normal" year - if that makes sense?

May I ask who you were insured with and how much you paid a month - if you don't mind? :)

Zara is insured with Argos Platinum, for 7 k per year lifetime cover so renewable (the 7k) every year.

At the moment I pay a lot, nearly £90 per month but Zara had 2 hips replaced and other smaller problems so...

Even if I put that £90 per month away, this would never add up to the cost of her vet care. She will be 7 yo this year.

He insurance started at around £20 per month but went up (a lot) due to all the treatments she needed.
