AA taking direct debit payments without third party consent

It's not the first time they've done this, but it'll be the last. They've taken £142 out of my account (25% increase on the previous year) without even writing to me beforehand. They call it "automatic renewal". I didn't ask for the membership as I have a new car which has cover anyway. This is legalised robbery. I'll never be using the AA again and I'll now be closing all my bank accounts and opening new ones, so no-one can do this again. They'll all lose in the long run, and deserve it. BEWARE !!0

My partner and I had a car insurance policy with The AA which was due for renewal at the end of its year in Dec 2015. We opted not to go with them as the premium had increased by a considerable amount and as such attempted to cancel it, terminating the direct debit.
We received a letter in mid Jan 2016 informing that £111 had to be payed by Feb 4th or the policy would be cancelled. We wanted the policy cancelled, but could never get through on the phone so accepted that it would lapse and we would owe £111. Come Feb 4th a debit was made from my card by AA for £489! I rang up and was informed in a very unsympathetic manner that the company had used continual payment arrangement to take the money and they believed it was perfectly acceptable. I asked to speak to a manager and the member of staff in credit control hung up on me. I rang back and eventually spoke to a manager who would not even listen to me or give me opportunity to explain.. She again informed that my card details were retained on the system and they could take the money if the wanted. I protested that I have £1.16 to now last me a month, a child to pay for, and support as well as my partner. We desperately needed the money. I was met with "There is nothing that can be done". I rang the Bank and they informed that they could not stop it and it would have to be sorted with the AA.
I am intending to undertake a course of action against the AA and will make every possible attempt to expose them for what they are and would like to make it well known that they have taken this money from me without me having any knowledge that I had consented to a CPA, and placed me in debt with daily overdraft charges now being added to my account. Please don't let this happen to you, be very careful with what you sign up to or agree with The AA if you must use them. I intend to start a blog documenting my progress and will update on here with the details. The thing that stood out for me the most was the lack of empathy, understanding of reasoning from staff at The AA.0 -
AA Developments continually try to take money from account despite my having no account with them for many years. They started trying to take £145 pounds out last year. I noticed it on my account and immediately cancelled the DD they had set up without my knowledge and called the bank. They also cancelled it and refunded the money. However, despite all that, every few days they continually take it out and the bank repay it. The bank say they can't stop them! How can this be? It is an unlawful transaction and I have to keep checking my account to make sure it is refunded!0
