BA Compensation from November 2007

Received a cheque for £864.90 from BA due to a flight being cancelled to New York because their cabin crew were found drunk in a Manchester hotel celebrating Thanksgiving.
They have calculated the 1200 Euros at the exchange rate applicable in 2007. I have contacted the Civil Aviation Authority and am now pursuing BA for the additional £168.
How much money are they trying to save by pulling off this fast one ?

Not according to the guys I spoke to at the Civil Aviation Authority !0

Just for info, the compo cheque that I got from Monarch was based on the exchange rate of the day that they agreed the compensation, - which was two or three weeks ago.0

Wrote to BA re them using the exchange rate as at 2007.They have now looked into this issue again and have confirmed that they will use the rate of exchange on the day the first compensation cheque was issued. I have now received an additional cheque for £178.94 !
This should be a clear message to all claimants not to be fobbed off by BA in accepting the lower amount.0 -
I am busy perusing a claim against BA for cancelled
flights in May of 2007. Unfortunately they are
bail king because I don't have the booking reference.
Did you still have that for your flight?

Sorry. we did not have a flight reference but we had the flight number and one seat number. We sent them press cuttings of the delayed flight as this was heavily publicised in the press and tv due to the cabin crew being found drunk in a Manchester hotel the night before. BA will try and fob you off with not having a booking ref as they tried to with us.
Contact the Civil Aviation Authority on 020 7453 6888 Mon - Fri 09.00am to 2.30pm. They will set up a file and are very helpful.
Good luck.0 -
You are missing the point. The European ruling stated that compensation was to be a maximum of 600 Euros. If BA would have been even more stupid than normal in giving a higher rate than they had to, then they can afford it. However, they don`t make such huge profits by making simple errors as that. Do you honestly believe that they were not trying to get away with minimising the compensation that is due to customers they have mis-treated in the past ?0

The point you make has not been missed - just not worthy of a mention.
From the outset, you have backed the Airline and given very poor advice eg "You will lose if you take it to court"........"I should offer THEM an apology".
Do you have any connection with BA ?
Unlike you "Centipede" , BA realised they were in the wrong and did`nt have a leg to stand on ( perhaps give them one of yours! )0 -
That says it all.
It was nice to take on the big boys and win...irrespective of any dodgy, misinformed advice you gave.0
