I'm quite surprised, I'm sure if my daughter had bitten anyone I would have been told, maybe it's kids nowadays, I don't know.

    There have always been biters.

I tend to agree with HBS that it's an unlearned behaviour.

Fair do's, I'm not disagreeing, I never saw much of it when my daughter was a child but she's 27 now, maybe it's more common nowadays, still think it's wrong though.

FGS, there have always been children who bite, it's got naff all to do with kids nowdays.

It's usually out of frustration of being unable to express themselves or frustration because because someone won't stop doing something. It's also a sensory issue, some children like the feeling of biting into skin and will bite their own.

I guess you've had a very sheltered life if this is the first you've ever heard of children biting, but don't think for one minute tht because you haven't heard of it it doesn't go in every nursery and infant school across the country.

the punishment that the boy got, was a afternoon without being able to play outside.

My son would have been devastated at that kind of punishment from school, if he couldn't go outside with his friends. That would have been plenty enough to make him sorry and determined not to behave badly in future. Plus he'd've been scared by the boy being concussed.

Turns out the child involved is a biter, and he was the third child in the past five school days that has been hurt by the child involved so they have called a meeting with the childs parents. So at least something is being done and this will get nipped in the bud!!!

FGS, I guess you are wrong cos I certainly have not lead a sheltered life, thanks for guessing wrongly. I never said it was the first time I had heard it, I said I never experienced it with my daughter, yes, there was some kids who did bite but very few and they were dealt with briskly. Sorry if you find this hard to believe but that really your problem, not mine.

I had one biter out of three kids so I agree, it's something instinctive in their makeup rather than a learned response or bad parenting. (Though I say it myself!) He grew out of it by about five though for everyone except his brother. He did bite a couple of other kids in nursery, got The Talk from teachers and myself, stopped doing it. If the OPs child was bitten by a five year old I'd say that was pretty standard behaviour at that age, if the biter was eleven on the other hand I'd be far more concerned.

One other thing is that schools don't pass on the names of the child that's done the biting or hitting, normally. They have a duty of confidentiality towards all children. Your own child can tell you who bit or hit them, obviously, but the school won't name names or discuss things. Also, there's a limit to what they can do to punish a child and normally it will consist of withdrawal of a privilege, which may not seem like enough to a strict parent. But what else can they do if it doesn't warrent exclusion? The days of the strap or belt are long gone and very few parents would do more than The Talk and removing some treat or privilege either tbh.

What would concern me is that the OP's son has been the victim of two seperate incidents in a very short space of time. They're not linked by any chance?

My son told me who it was, and he has no bad feelings towards the child.
I am a stricter parent than some, yes, maybe too strict but think biting is beyond the usual rough and tumble that happens in a playground. But if its being dealt with and my sons ok, thats all that matters.

I agree with you, here's hoping this is the end of it, you did the right thing.
