Am I doing something wrong?

Options
Im a lapsed comper, I started it a few years ago and had a good few wins, but gave up when I had my baby but last year (jun-jul) I decided to give it a go again!

And I am having zero luck.... dont get me wrong Ive won a couple of small things like Andrex Washlets and Batiste Dry Shampoo but thats it??

Im starting to think Im doing something wrong, I enter loads and even small comps and I just dont seem to have any luck, I do enjoy it though and the thought of "what if" keeps me going but I think silly things like "is my email address a problem" I use an @sky address?

Don't worry, you're not doing anything wrong.

I know it's a boring answer but it's just a case of keep going and the wins will come. It does get you down when you enter and enter and win nothing but YOU WILL eventually.

You have to be in it to win it, so try to just enjoy to process and you will reep the rewards. Keep trying.

Sending you lots of luck x

How many is loads? Sometimes people enter what they think is loads but i find i have to enter really really loads. For example over the weekend I entered about 300 comps. I was entering about 30 a day and only winning odds and sods, I now enter about 5-600 a week and am winning something most weeks. But at the end of the day, is just pot luck!

Yes. You're doing it all wrong. You shouldn't sleep, eat or do anything but comping. ;)

Of course not, it really is just down to luck, some people have more of it than others. I've entered well over 5,000 this year. (100 a day + 50-100 twitter) and won 50 things. That's 1/100! You should stop thinking 'oh ive not won since...' It can be disheartening and you might not get the win for a couple of months.

Change things up. Do some email comps, do some video ones. Look when you go out and about! :)

It will come eventually! :) Fingers crossed for you :) xx

If you find out, let me know ;) I haven't even had any small wins yet!
  • Same here, not a thing since last year, November maybe, when I won a baby gym. I don't remember entering to win a baby gym though - I don't have a baby!

It's true though, it's mostly at random since most comps are prize draws so if your name isn't the first out of the hat, it's not you.

On the very other end of the scale, my mum entered about 11 comps year before last and won a tablet, 500 quid of store vouchers and something else impressive, I forget what. All within a month.

2014 wins: maternity/nursing pillow, Magnum chocolate, baby stroller, Baileys cupcakes
Took a break while I moved country (twice).
    2018 wins:£400 meal for 4, Clipper tea
    2019 wins: flight voucher
  • I guess there could be several thousand others who could be asking the question "Am I doing something wrong? "

( and that would be just from M.S.E alone)
  • I enter 100+ comps per day and I am having shocking luck so far this year. December was okay but Jan and Feb have been awful.

You will see some people regularly winning £1000+ worth of prizes each month (which doesn't really add up to me but hey ho) and then you will see people win nothing for 6 weeks at a time.

The thing to remember is that you may win 4 prizes this month but they may all be tiny things, whereas someone else might win 4 things which might be an ITV win, a TV, an ipad and a holiday.

It is bloody annoying but that is the just the luck of the draw. I used to think I was reasonably lucky in that I would win about £90 of small prizes each month with the occasional big win such as a phone or an xbox.

Now I look at people's signatures and realise I am comparatively not doing well at all. :( For example I have NEVER won a holiday whilst some people have won 4 or 5. I've NEVER won a TV and I've only once won cash (€500).

nelie's win rate is 1 in 100 which is very, very good. I think the last time an estimate was made from combined compers data, it worked out more like 1 win per 1200 comps entered.

There are more people doing competitions now too, so that's a factor.

Just keep plugging away hun and stop if it gets to be too much of a chore. It's not worth doing if it stresses you out.

  • I've won three small things in the past year - and two of those prizes were runner up prizes that I gave away because I couldn't use them ...

It doesn't really bother me as, being ill, I have little else to do apart from other hobbies, but it bores me sometimes just clicking on links and filling in forms so I don't do that many. Plus I can never find many comps I want to enter and there's little point in wasting time entering a comp if you don't want the prize.

I tend to do a lot of twitter, which is why my win rate is probably a lot higher than a lot of people. :). As in 10/100 entered on the 30th Jan (for example)

There are loads more people doing it now.

"there's little point in wasting time entering a comp if you don't want the prize" For everyone that thinks like that - one less entry into the draw means more chance for me :P. You need to change your thinking. "I will win, I will do well'

Comping Karma too! Always congratulate, spread lucky dust and the comping Karma fairy will help you win. (or so I think anyway!) x

But what's the point in winning a prize that you don't want? :)
