Travelodge damages to room

I can't help but wonder what kind of damage "Only needs a wipeover" yet damages curtains and curtain rails. I hope the OP has seen the damage first hand although I can't help but wonder why they haven't handed the issue over to the "friend" who damaged the room .....or perhaps doesn't trust them to sort it.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Travelodge have now come after me for damages, I accept there are damages to be paid however they are trying to charge £406, they have photos of the damage - which in the main is aesthetic and just needs a wipe over.
However they are charging £260 for cleaning, £80 for a curtain and another £80 for a curtain rail - which I feel is extortionate.
A mentioned I was not in the room at the time and am unhappy that I am being treated like a criminal by the Civil Recovery Service. What are my options? also I am hoping to get a mortgage in the next few months, how far can this claim progress before it will damage my credit rating?
Would travelodge accept an offer for the damages, hoe would I go about making such an offer?
If you booked and paid for the room and signed the guests register you are the customer, you are responsible for supervising your guests and returning the room to the hotel in good condition. Your card details were taken against any costs including damage, if you were unwilling for that to happen you should have asked your friends to supply their card details on checking in.
Curtain rails are inexpensive, however fitting them especially if the wall needs repairing (was the rail pulled out of the fixings?) is a professional job that takes time and at least two sessions - repainting may be needed as well as filling holes. Curtains are not cheap, especially if they need to be made to measure and/ or are blackout or thermal lined.
The cleaning actually sounds to be the most expensive and the part I would query. 'In the main' is irrelevant, do the carpets or bedding need deep cleaning?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
I remember hearing of a case where a man was fined for his 17 year old son having a single cigarette and they tried charging £250, he dispited it and ended up paying a fraction of that as when asked to prove they used their minimum wage cleaner and a few quid in cleaning products.0
