Thank you very much for posting this!!!!! after a stressful month looking for a logo, I came accross your post, I was getting quotes for well over £100 . Contacted where you recommended and didn't believe it was free :D.

I managed to just squeeze in to get the free promotion but they are charging very small fee's now.

Thank you very much for posting this!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

They seem to charge from £60 for websites, though they do a 10% off deal.
If your friend is just starting out, there are places they can get free websites from
    http://www.smashingapps.com/2011/01/28/7-best-yet-free-online-website-builders.html
    http://tartanwebdesign.co.uk/the-best-free-websites/

Alternatively, they could look out for web developers/designers looking to expand their portfolio who may do them free or at a reduced price, not just the one OP mentions. Maybe some web design/development forums would be the place to look.

It's worth bearing in mind the work involved in a website though. My brother does them for a living and gets frustrated by people who want to pay pennies yet have every bell and whistle on the website. They're time consuming to make (OK, templates are quicker but if you want it custom-made from scratch, it takes time and effort), customers usually want several tweaks here and there, and they require a level of skill and artistic flair that should be given a fair value. You'd pay a mechanic for their expertise, websites may not be as physically "real" as a car or car parts but behind the scenes they are a big jumble of coding languages that aren't that straightforward.
A website is a form of advertising and just like you'd expect to pay for a space in the newspaper, on a billboard or a few minutes on TV, a good quality website is a good investment. Cheap may not be the best way forward - cheap can look cheap and that has your customers questioning the quality of your own services.

    Hi YKay,

I contacted them this morning via live chat and they are currently undergoing a price match promotion. As far as I am aware they are willing to beat any quotes given to them, I have forwarded them to a friend of mine.

Like the other poster said, it will be low cost prices as they are building a portfolio together.

It depends what you expect with your website, if your looking for a fairly cheap website, then go for it :). The websites look professional for the costs they are going for.

    Hope this helps.
  • I got to the final stages of planning a logo with them and then they quite rudely asked me to pay costs, after I had previously been told it was completely free. I would have been happy to pay if the costs had been set out at the beginning of the discussion, but I was quite annoyed and decided to not bother.

Hope others have a better experience.

This happened to me as well, it did state in there terms & condition that a small donation may apply. They only asked for a minimum of £2 so I gave them £5 as they created me various different design to choose from :). Graphics designs these days don't come cheap, so I was more than happy donating the little extra :).

I was also offered 50% off my next order for the misunderstanding of the promotion, didn't come in useful for me but I passed it onto a friend which is more than happy as they are making a website order with them in the next couple of weeks :D.

Surely it's not a donation if it's compulsary? It's either an optional donation or a small charge
  • Yes I think it was optional, I was told that they was getting a lot of requests so donated orders was getting put priority.

I think they added the clause about a donation later, as I checked the T&C's before contacting them. I wasn't asked to pay an optional donation, I was told that I must pay costs. I think them asking for donations is a good idea, and much more friendly. Not a big deal for me though, as I'm able to do my own graphic design when I find the time :)
